FC Hartlepool assistant manager Mark Loynes praised Wearside League new-boys Washington United for their performance in their 2-1 defeat at Grayfields.

Cameron Thompson’ s side actually took a surprise lead on Saturday with seven minutes on the clock when Steven Dawson put them ahead.

However, they fell to their first defeat of the season and goals either side of half-time from Matty Gardner and Kalon Lloyd gave Hartlepool all three points.

After the game, Loynes told The Echo :“I thought they started the game very well and caused us a lot of problems for the opening 15 minutes.

“They took the lead on seven minutes and it was a very good goal from their point of view.

“You have to say fair play to them because you get a lot of teams coming to Grayfields and putting a lot of men behind the ball.

“We wish them well, and if they stick to their principles, I am sure they will have a good first season in the league.”

H or den CW continued their perfect start to the season with an impressive 5-1 win against Chester-leStreet United.

There were five different scorers for Horden as Josh Broom, Alan Golightly, Ryan Bolam, Marc Moon and Peter Crawford all found the net as

they made it two wins inside four days.

Bolam’ s stunning longrange strike was the high point of the display as the midfielder played his part in a memorable day for his family after his dad Kevin led Hebburn Town to the FA Vase Final on Saturday afternoon, where they will tackle Consett on September 27 at Wembley Stadium.

Assistant manager Lee Bogan reflected on a dominant first-half display as his side struck four times to lay the foundations for the win.

He said: “The lads were superb from the first whistle.

“The shape we kept really gave Chester no time to play or to get into the game.

“The two early goals gave us a great foothold and we

never looked back.

“The game was effectively won in the first-half and I can’t praise the lads enough.”

However, it is Bold on CA that sit at the top of the primitive Wearside League table after a Levi Collins hattrick and a Dan Wright goal helped them to a 4-0 win at West Auckland Tunns.

A Scott Ryan brace and a

Mikey McGee strike helped Wovi st on retain their unbeaten status with a 3-0 win at Ann field Plain and Durham United’ s record also remains unblemished after they claimed a 3-1 home win against Darlington RA.

Kerry Hedley gave the visitors an early lead at New Ferens Park – but it was United that took the points thanks to a brace from new signing

Matty Pennal and a goal from substitute Thomas Hizzett.

Norton and Stockton Ancients claimed their first win in Division One with a 2-0 triumph at Gateshead Le am Ranger sandal ate equaliser from Sam England earned D arlington Town a point at Richmond Town after Luke McCormack had put the hosts ahead midway through the second-half.
