New figures have revealed how cases of Covid-19 recorded across Wearside more than quadrupled in a week.

Martin Olde: More cases, the higher the R rate; the higher the R rate the greater impact on vulnerable groups and then a spike in the death rate further down the line. Or is this "acceptable"? I give it four weeks until we're back in serious trouble. Hope I'm wrong.

Cal Conroy: Not worrying at all only 7 deaths since the 1st September in the region. Stop scaremongering! And 24 nationwide since the 1st - start reporting properly or not at all. More tests = more cases. As long as the death rate and hospital admissions are low that’s the numbers I care about.

Dean Angus: I'm absolutely baffled how the numbers have increased since the testings have increased.

Michael Keirl: Just do what you're told. It's that simple. Big groups cannot meet indoors, so no house parties, raves etc. People won't be able to stand in pubs for months to come, meaning anyone who wants to go to the pub on Christmas or New Years Eve will have to book.

Paul Mckiernan: Here's a little equation the number of people tested + the number of positive tests = more cases. Wow look at that

Chris Parry:

Jump in tests too! Can’t get a test for days!

Trace Hobbit Jefferson: All this rising of covid doesn't add up pub have been open ex amount of weeks numbers fall kids go back to school rise now there could be a possible lockdown again what the hell is going on these young people need there education

Tracy Snuggles Curry: I'm originally from the northeast but moved to Caerphilly in South wales 7ys ago and from 6pm today we go back into local lockdown. I can't have my family from Sunderland or friends visit but I can go to the pub and have a pint with Joe bloggs

Sue Stokoe: We came out of lockdown too soon! Then they decided to open restaurants pubs and clubs where large crowds of people can gather absolutely stupid!

Vivienne Young: It is worrying. People should have more thought for others. Crowding together in pubs is not the way forward.
