Have your say on 440 new homes

- Debra Fox debra.fox@jpimedia.co.uk @DebraFox_

The Sunderland community is being invited to have a say on plans to bring hundreds of new homes to a site near Penshaw.

Taylor Wimpey revealed proposals earlier this year to develop around 440 homes over a 23-hectare site, to the north of Chislehurst Road, Penshaw, and adjacent to Herrington Country Park.

The chosen site has been allocated for development as part of Sunderland City Council’s Local Plan, with the housebuilder now launching a second consultation to collect the public’s views on the proposed home before the plans are formally entered to the local authority at a later date.

It is expected that there will be homes in a variety of sizes – from two bedrooms up to four bedrooms – as well as a number of larger residences.

Around 15% of these will be affordable housing.

Members of the public will be able to share their view with the Taylor Wimpey team on Friday, September 18 and Saturday, September 19 via telephone or online.

A company spokesperson said: “Since the initial consultation a significant amount of work has been undertaken to develop the scheme.

"The proposals provide a range of housing in an attractive setting, taking advantage of the site’s relationship with the Country Park and Penshaw Monument.

“This is an exciting development and we are keen to hear the views of the community on our more detailed plans, before we submit a formal planning application to the council.”

The site has been identified by Sunderland City Council as important in helping deliver on its ambition to increase the number of ‘larger detached dwellings’ in the city.

If you want to share your views on the scheme, contact Taylor Wimpey’s development team between 4pm and 8pm on Friday, and 9am and 1pm on Saturday on 0191 516 5423.

The team can also be reached at penshaw@taylorwimpey.com during the same time periods.

Taylor Wimpey will open its public consultation board for the development on Friday, with an online feedback form available for completion. A hard copy form can be requested by phone.

An initial consultation period was also held virtually in March this year when the plans were first announced.
