Police seize weapons and drugs from car
Police seized a stash of suspected amphetamine and weap o n s a f te r a ve h i c l e aroused their suspicion.
At ab o ut 4 . 2 5 p m o n T hu r s d ay, o f f i c e r s we re travelling in Hylton Road when a grey Audi caught their attention.
After carrying out checks on the vehicle, police followed it and saw the driver stop and head into a convenience store. Suspecting something was wrong, officers observed the vehicle before speaking to the driver and a male passenger.
A search of the car located a number of bags of white powder believed to be amphetamine, along with a baseball bat, golf club and pick axe handle.
Two men – aged 37 and 36 – were arrested and taken into custody.

Northumbria Police, said: “This was an excellent example of officers trusting their instincts after spotting something that looked suspicious.
“Their keen eye resulted in a quantity of illegal drugs being taken off our streets and a number of offensive weapons being seized. An investigation is o n goi n g i nto th e discoveries, and we make no apology for our robust stance on tackling drug-related crime in our city. “We know how detr imental and corrosive an impact that drug misuse can have on the most vulnerable in our communities, so we will continue to do all we can to seize these illicit substances, and take action against anybody found in possession of them.”
The men have been released under investigation while inquiries continue.
