EIBA take tough call to cancel nationals

Hope’s were raised when the EIBA confirmed last season’s 2019/20 cancelled National Championsh­ips would take place in November plus the draw for this season’s 2020/21 singles and pairs would finally see the sport see some competitiv­e action.

Sadly following the government’s restrictio­ns announced this week which a re l i ke l y to l a s t for s i x months the EIBA have taken the tough decision to cancel the planned November event and all of this season’s national competitio­ns.

It is now hoped to run the beleaguere­d 2019/20 finals stages in April next year.

T h e i n d o o r re s tr i c t i o n m ove to s i x h owe ve r s t i l l e n ab l e s i n d o o r s b owl s to continue at club level using triple formats for all leagues with all recommende­d COVID guidelines in place.

B owl s E n g l a n d h ave n a m e d th e i r p rov i s i o n a l h i g h p e r f o r m a n c e s qu a d for the 2022 Commonweal­th Games in Birmingham, ten para-athletes will also be included on the high performanc­e program.

The final Team England bowls squad is expected to be announced late in 2021.
