Mixed emotions for Johnson as he nets against former club
Seaham Red Star striker Andrew Johnson has revealed that he had“mixe demotions” after he found the net against former club Bishop Auckland.
The Two-Blues legend helped Mark Collingwood’s side to their first league win of the season when he grabbed the first goal in a 2-0 win at Heritage Park on Saturday.
Johnson became a popular figure as he fired 240 in 281 games over two spells for Bishops – but he came back to haunt his old club when he tapped home from closerange to open the scoring just after half-time.
Former Sunderland Under-23’s winger Nathan Greenwood added a second just before the hour-mark to help Red Star to a muchneeded win against their managerless opponents.
Johnson admitted that it was a “big relief ” to see his side get their first win after a challenging start to the campaign.
He told The Sunderland Echo :“There were mixed emotions, it was a weird feeling going back and going in the away dressing room.
“I didn’t want to celebrate when I scored, but it was a massive game for us because we are both scrapping for points.
“We’ve had some tough games, so chances have been few and far-between.
“We had five or six players missing on Saturday, so to get a chance and score, it was big relief.”
The goal at Heritage Park was Johnson’s second since his summer move to Red Star.
The striker is now hoping to find the net on a more regular basis to help his side build on their win over his former club.
“We have got some really hard fixtures out of the way,” he explained. “Other than the games against the top three, we have kept clean sheets, so that’s a positive.
“I don’t think we have had our strongest team out just yet, but we have points on the board.
“We are trying to stay positive; we have had words saying we need to improve, but we are aware that we have had a tough run.
“We now just want to kick on and hopefully I can get some goals to help us do that.”
Next up for Collingwood’s Seaham Red Star is a toughlooking trip to Shildon on Tuesday night.
