Plant is recruiting manufacturing staff

Nissan’s Sunderland plant is recruiting again.

The Wearside plant confirmed in June it had told the more than 200 workers on temporary contracts they would not be returning to work after a coronavirus shut-down.

The firm still employs another 500 members of staff on temporary contracts.

And now it is recruiting again as it looks to replace staff whom have left through natural wastage. An online recruitment ad states: “Nissan Sunderland plant are looking for manufacturing staff to create quality cars of the future. When you join our manufacturing team, you’ll have the opportunity to get involved in all sorts of challenging and exciting projects."

Nissan placed the majority of its workers on furlough when a halt was put on production at the site on Tuesday, March 17. Line two, which makes Jukes and Qashqai models, returned with a single shift on Monday, June 8, with plans to move on to a two-shift pattern by Monday, June 29.

Line one, which makes Qashqais and Leaf models, resumed on Monday, June 22, with a return to two-shift working a week later.

Now the firm has advertised for temporary staff to join the manufacturing team.

An online advertisement says the Japanese car giant is looking for workers with "a flexible approach to overtime and job rotation, the confidence to identify and raise any concerns” and “safety conscious people with the drive to learn new skills”.
