Whitburn battled back to beat Rolls-Royce 4-2 in the Sunderland & District Over40s League.

Rolls led 2-0 at the break courtesy of a Martin Mulvaney brace, but goals by Chris Hamill, Ryan Gallentine and a brace by Graeme Gibson saw Whitburntakeallthreepoints. Hamill was the man of the match for the victors.

Willow Pond shared the spoils after a thrilling 4-4 draw at Redcar Newmarket.

Newmarket took the lead through Simon Dove and then doubled their lead courtesy of a John Carless penalty.

A Po n d c o r n e r s aw Brown hammer home from close range to pull a goal back for 2-1 and they then drew level when Gary Golightly's free-kick curled in. In the Premier League Washington travelled to St Mary’s with an injury hit squad but won 4-2.

They started strongly and quicklywentagoalupfromthe penalty spot through James Thompson.

Their lead was doubled shortly after with a smart finish from the impressive Steven Burns. Minutes later Peter Bryson rose well to head in the third from a dead ball kick.

The fourth came courtesy of Paul Kindon who nipped in to catch out the St Mary’s defence and fired home. The hosts pulled one back in controversial fashion, with Washington claiming offside, and then scored again from a direct free kick.

Any thoughts that a comeback was on the cards would be misleading.

A string of missed chances from Washington made the scoreline flattering for the hosts.

Raby Arms made the long journey to play Richmond Town in Division Two and came away with a 2-2 draw.
