Barely tested by a Charlton side that failed to produce much on the ball for the majority of the contest. 6
Another controlled display from the right-sided defender, who did well throughout. 7
Had rarely been troubled defensively in another assured display but the defence was caught out seemingly from nowhere. It was a soft red, a trip rather than a challenge of any malice. 5
LUKE O’NIEN
Got into some encouraging positions in the first half but his side were unable to make the most of them. 6
Another controlled display at the base of midfield. Both Sunderland and Charlton were grateful for the experience and nous of their defensive midfielder. 6
Was unlucky not to register an assist in the first half. An excellent corner was almost converted by Bailey Wright, before an even better low cross to the far post was somehow turned over the bar by Danny Graham. 6
Probably his quietest game of the season so far. Unusually, the vast majority of Sunderland’s attacking threat, particularly in the first half, came down the right flank. 6
LYNDEN GOOCH
Had little chance to influence proceedings in front of goal but in fairness, he had little chance to. 5
AIDEN O’BRIEN
The Irishman was full of running, got himself in some excellent positions and brought others into play, but just couldn’t find the finish in front of goal when the chance came. 6
DANNYGRAHAM
Linked up with team-mates and held the ball up well, as you would expect. Had a glorious chance to get his league account up and running late in the first half, but fired his effort over the bar from just yards out. 5 SUBS
WILL GRIGG
His brief changed almost immediately after Flanagan’s red card, forced to drop much deeper to help his side. 6
Missed a good opening late on but also won some important fouls to buy his side time. 6
