Adamson double fires CIU to shock win over rivals Dawdon Welfare

Easington CIU claimed a surprise win against Dawdon Welfare Park in the only SSK Recruitmen­t Peterlee & District Sunday League Premier Division game last weekend, leaving the victors as the only side with a 100% record.

A brace from their leading scorer last season, Liam Adamson plus further goals from Simon Todd and sub Nathan Foster sealed the CIU win while Denver Morris and Marc Ruddock replied for Welfare.

In Division One, Horden JD’s Bar made it three wins from three to remain in pole position after a comfortabl­e 6-3 win against Sherburn United thanks to goals from Reece Brymer, Peter Crawford, Shaun Bentley and subs Dan Sennett and Jake Briggs, two goals from Andrew Elliott and a Josh Chilver strike being the Sherburn reply.

Peterlee Helford United moved up the table when goals from Joe Spalding, Thomas Gilling and Ben Larkin saw them beat Seaham Marlboroug­h 3-1, Dan Armstrong on target for the Marlboroug­h.

In the Second Division, Haswell Odd fellows Arms earned a 5-2 win against Horden Labour Club, their goals coming from Brandon Collin, Kieran Rowell, Ricky Ramsey, Joe Jackson and Alan Iley while Simon Hall and Nicholas Davies replied.

Roseberry Park enjoyed a 4-0 win against Easington Welfare thanks to goals from John Brown (2), Josh Dickinson and Thomas Lawton.

In the preliminar­y round of the Heart Foundation Cup, Murton Colliery drew 1-1 with Bishop Juniors, Pavilion’s scorer was Adam Leslie and they won the penalty shootout 4-3.

A goal from Dave Lumsden was not enough for Easington Leather Cap as they suffered a 3-1 defeat to Bishop Auckland Bay Horse while Seaham Parkside lost 6-4 to Toft Hill Three Tuns.

In the first round of the Second Division League Cup, a superb hat trick from Brian Smith plus an effort from Tom Williams saw Easington Victory beat Peterlee Acre Rigg Social 4-2, Craig Johnston and Dave Usher replying.

Goals from Tommy Origbo and Paul Cudlip were not enough for East Durham F SS as they lost 3-2 to Seaham Oddfellows Arms, whose goals came from Nathan Kitson, Jordan Bunts and Jack Appleby.

Hat-tricks from Philip Robinson and Ethan Maddison plus further goals from Martin Basley and Ellis Dunn paved the way for Horden Legion’s 8-2 win at Seaham Inn Between, whose goals came from James Yuill and Wesley Smith.
