West End manager Liddle hoping for a change of luck at Willington

-

Sunderland West End manager Darren Liddle is hoping for a change of luck when his side travel to Hall Lane to face Willington on Saturday.

West End fell to a 3-1 defeat at ever-improving Heaton Stannington on Wednesday night, despite matching their hosts for large parts of an intriguing contest at a rainsoaked Grounsell Park.

The two sides were level with ten minutes left in the game before a debatable penalty decision given against Liddle’s side proved to be the catalyst for their third consecutive league defeat.

But now the West End boss is hoping that the decisions that have gone against his side can even themselves out at Hall Lane this weekend.

He told The Echo: “We were probably the better team in the game, and I was massively aggrieved by the penalty.

“It’s not just bad luck with referee decisions, but it’s injuries too. We are due a bit of luck so hopefully that comes soon.

“I think Willington are similar to us, they need to find that consistency, but they have something about them.

“It’s another tough game, but it always is at their place.”

West End could hand another start to new signing Dan Maddison after he joined the club from Crook Town in time to make his debut at Heaton Stannington in midweek.

Another new face could make an appearance after Liddle brought in James Thompson from Division One club Whitley Bay.

Former Newcastle United defender Olivier Bernard will take charge of Durham City once again when they visit Billingham Synthonia.

The Citizens are still looking to replace former boss Didier Agathe and have fielded expressions of interest from several managers with Northern League experience.

Durham will come up against a familiar face tomorrow as B er mud an striker D’Andre Wainwright is set to make his first appearance for the Synners against his former club.

Jarrow could hand debuts to new signings Scott Wallace and Peter Jones when they host

Ryton and Crawcrook Albion and Washington face a tough test as they look to move away from the bottom three as they entertain in-form West Allotment Celtic.

Jack Pounder will sit out Easington Colliery’s visit to Heaton Stannington as he serves a ban and Chester-le-Street Town go looking for a first win in four games when they face Newcastle University at Kimberley Park.
