Ex-Cat Camp training with Sheff Wed to retain fitness

-

Fo r m e r Su n d e rl a n d goa lkeeper Lee Camp has been handed the chance to train at Sheffield Wednesday.

A free agent, Camp was released by Birmingham City and linked with a move to Salford City over the summer.

But that deal failed to materialise and the stopper remains without a club entering the final stages of the transfer window.

And while he has spent recent weeks training with the Owls, manager Garry Monk insists the arrangement is purely to allow the stopper to retain his fitness.

Monk told The Star: “He just needed some training, he hasn’t found a club yet - he knows us very well, he lives further up north with his family, and he asked if he could come in to keep fit.

“At Birmingham, Campy was fantastic with me.

"He’s a great lad, and when you have people in your career that you respect, you try and help them out in times of need.

"He wants to try and keep on top of his fitness, so that’s what we’re doing really.”

M e a nwh i l e, t w o p l ay - ers linked with Sunderland this summer look set to seal moves elsewhere.

Leeds United midfielder Rob bie Gotts – who has attracted interest from a number of League One sides – is set to sign for Lincoln City on loan, according to various reports.

And Burnley f ull-back Ali Koiki is reportedly on the verge of joining Bristol Rovers.

Koiki turned down a new deal at Turf Moor in the s ummer and the Clarets ar e eligible for compensation once the youngster signs for a new club.
