Horden CC looking forward to the 2021 cricket season with optimism

-

Having been relegated to the Second Division at the end of the 2019 season, Horden Cricket Club opted out of playing any cricket in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Despite no cricket played, chairman Paul Patterson has sent out a message to let everyone know that Horden CC are alive and kicking.

In these difficult times which are still ongoing, he has outlined that the club are looking forward to the 2021 season with optimism.

Chairman Paul Patterson said: "That the 2020 cricket season was a difficult one for Horden CC, after the players were polled about their availability to play cricket matches throughout that summer, bearing in mind the many restrictions linked to Covid-19.

“We respected the views and opinions of all our players and officials.

"It was decided therefore that Horden CC would not field adult teams. Both me and Secretary Adam Dixon ran Under-11 and Under-13 sides respectively.

"Also, an Under-12 side reached the quarter final stage of the County Cup competition.

“Since the club did not play adult cricket last season, there has been a great deal of speculation concerning the up-and-coming 2021 season.

"It is the intention of Horden CC to field a First, Second and Third team and run Junior sides at Under-9s, Under-11s and Under-13s in 2021.

"Each team will also enter their respective league cup competition if they are organised.

“At the League’s Annual General Meeting held last week on Zoom, Horden CC officials confirmed to the meeting that they would definitely be playing two teams in the 2021 season which is scheduled to commence in late April.

“Last season, several of our players who played in 2019, decided to play cricket for other clubs, this after we had made the decision not to play teams in 2020, and we supported them in this venture.

"A number of these players have already stated that they will be returning to our club this forthcoming season 2021.

"Horden CC would like to extend an invitation to all former players to contact me or the Secretary Adam Dixon with a view to playing for our club in the 2021 season.

“I feel as Chairman that Horden CC can look forward to the 2021 season with a great deal of optimism.”
