Have a say on £100m regeneration plans

-

Sunderland residents have just days left in which to comment on multi-million pound plans to regenerate the city.

Details on the £100m Riverside Sunderland project – which aims to create up to 10,000 jobs, 1,000 homes and new bridges across the river – are included in the Sunderland City Council blueprint.

So too are aspirations to create a new low-carbon community in Washington and a Metro connection to the area.

The deadline for feedback on the council’s Draft Allocations and Designations Plan, which sets out the way parts of the city will be developed in the coming months and years, is Friday.

Comments will be used to shape proposals prior to a further round of consultation on a revised draft plan later in the year.

Councillor Rebecca Atkinson, dynamic city cabinet member, urged people to have their say, adding: “This plan sets out a blueprint for parts of the city we’re keen to see developed and paves the way for a range of projects that we believe will add huge value to the city, to move forward.

“We’re very keen to ensure that residents see and support the plans. So we’re inviting people to read the plans and give us their feedback to enable us to take their views into account as we move forward.”

The project includes four new housing neighbourhoods on the banks of the River Wear as well as the construction of a footbridge between the city centre and the Stadium of Light.
