Durham County Council has launched a series of virtual classes which will be free of charge during their initial period.

The varied timetable of sessions, from gentle yoga classes to active HITT, are available on demand via the my wellness app.

For each activity, residents can follow a programme to learn the basics and build up confidence and technique in the comfort of their own home.

The mix of classes are led by fitness experts from Techno Gym, as well as the familiar faces of instructor sand coaches from the council’s own leisure centres.

Cllr Carl Marshall, Durham County Council’s Cabinet member for economic regeneration, said: “While we are all staying indoors to keep ourselves and others safe through the pandemic, we know many people have been finding it difficultto maintain their healthy habits, such as exercising regularly.

“Our online programme has been designed to make it more accessible for people to exercise at home and keep acFree tive during the pandemic while services, such as our leisure centres and fitness classes, are unavailable.

“Our health has never been so important, so whether you miss taking part in your usual weekly classes, are struggling to find ways to exercise while staying safe indoors, or would just like to try something new, the virtual sessions will be available for residents to take part in and enjoy.”
