Police probe deaths of two men inside flat

Police leading the investigat­ion into the deaths of two men who were found inside a Sunderland flat have issued an update into the probe.

Northumbri­a Police officers were called to the upstairs flat in Springwell Road on the afternoon of Thusday, February 25, following a report of concern for them pair.

Police said they were treating the deaths as “unexplaine­d” and have now said they do not believe anyone else was involved the the tragedy.

The force was seen by residents at the address up until Friday evening, with officers in forensic suits and dogs spotted at the property.

The identities of the men have not been confirmed, with the case now being passed to the coroner’s office, but police have said they were both 63-years-old.

A spokespers­on said: “Shortly after 3pm on Thursday we received a report of concern for two males inside an address on Springwell Road, Sunderland.

“Emergency services attended and sadly found the bodies of two men – both aged 63 – inside the property.

"Their next of kin have been informed.

“Officers are satisfied that there was no third-party involvemen­t in the deaths and a report will be made for the coroner.”

Neighbours said the man who lived in the flat “kept himself to himself ” and said they were sad to hear the men had been found dead inside the flat.

They said they saw police forcing open the door as inquiries began, with a number of marked vehicles and teams arriving as they helped carry out checks.
