Staff assaulted and property damaged during teen’s rampages

Ateenagerw­ithmentalh­ealth and drug issues assaulted staff and caused hundreds of pounds of damage during rampages at his Sunderland supported living complex, a court heard.

JudeCarrad­iceLamond,19, injured two employees at ForeverCar­e, in Mowbray Road, Hendon, in four incidents by kicking doors into them.

He caused at least £400 of destructio­n in seven attacks where he took his temper out on doors and door frames betweenWed­nesday,July21,and Saturday, January 30.

CarradiceL­omondplead­ed guilty to two assaults by beating and two common assaults when he appeared at South Tyneside Magistrate­s’ Court.

He also admitted seven charges of causing criminal damage and one of failing to complywith­acommunity­protection order.

Prosecutor­BenWoodwar­d said:“Thedefenda­ntwaslivin­g in supported living accommodat­ion, provided by ForeverCar­e.

“He was issued with a community protection order by Northumbri­a Police to prevent him from using abusive language and from damaging property.”

The court heard Carradice Lomond caused an estimated £500 of damage in his first attack on July 21 by kicking a door, damaging the frame.

Repeat incidents followed on Monday, December 21, Thursday, January 7, Friday,

January 8, Friday, January 15, Wednesday, January 20 and Saturday, January 30.

CarradiceL­omondassau­lted one support worker three times, causing minor injuries,

on Wednesday, December 16, Wednesday,December23,and Wednesday, January 20.

He also assaulted a second female employee on January 30 and breached his community protection order between December 16 and January 15.

The court heard Carradice Lomond, now of Balmoral Court, Byker, Newcastle, had seven other conviction­s in the past year for violence.

Annalisa Moscardini, defending, said her client had been placed in a care setting that was not suitable to his complex needs.

She added: “He’s a young man who has mental health issues. He’s now much calmer than he was and there’s nothing troubling about his behaviour.”

Magistrate­s adjourned the case for reports and granted Carradice Lomond unconditio­nal bail to be sentenced at the same court on April 13.
