Leisure centres in Sunderland are set to reopen from Monday after receiving the Government’s go ahead for Step 2 of the coronavirus recovery roadmap.

Sunderland Aquatic Centre, Raich Carter Sports Centre, Hetton Community Pool and Wellness Centre, Houghton Sports and Wellness Centre, Washington Leisure Centre and Silksworth Community Pool, Tennis and Wellness Centre – which are managed by Everyone Active with Sunderland City Council – will welcome back the public following a threemonth closure.

Everyone Active say the pool at Raich Carter Sports Centre will remain closed until further notice, but the reopening of the Olympic-sized pool at Sunderland Aquatic Centre will provide a huge boost to public health, following the completion of work on the roof of the building.

This is the latest stage of the four-step process and follows the reopening of several outdoor activities at Everyone Active sites on March 29, including Silksworth Sports Complex and Ski Slope.
