Warnock's telling response after defeat

-

Neil Warnock says Middlesbrough’s defeat at Barnsley showed the areas his side need to strengthen for next season.

Boro were beaten 2-0 at Oakwell after second-half goals from Alex Mowatt and Daryl Dike.

"We went through exactly how the game was going to be and it was just exactly like we said and I thought we competedwell ,” said War no ck after the game.

“I thought we had the best chances and if we take one of those chances we win the game I think.

“The longer the game goes on, you know they are going to get something and what can you say about a goal like that.”

Barnsley’s opener came when Mowatt’s in-swinging corner went past Boro keeper Marcus Bettinelli at his near post. Boro also struggled to hold the ball up in the final third, and their lack of an imposing centre forward was once again obvious.

“I’ve just apologised to JonnyHow son ,” added War no ck .“I though the was absolutely man of the match, he covered every blade of grass

“I said to him, you didn’ t deserveto be on the losing side today Jonny but trust me you’ll enjoy next season.

“Without me being too honest I don’t know what to say to you really. I’ m usually very honestbut it’ s not a day to be honest today. We say what we’ve been saying for the last few weeks really, we need to improve the squad and today I think demonstrated where we need to improve.”

Warnock also praised centre-backsGrant Hall and Pad dy McNair.

“I was disappointed with a couple of lads but the two centre-halves were fabulous,” he added.
