Parkinson a contender for Rovers vacancy

-

Former Sunderland manager Phil Parkinson is a leading contender to become the new boss of Doncaster Rovers.

That’s according to Football Insider, who state the ex-Bradford boss former Bradford City boss is a leading contender for the role.

Parkinson has been out of work following his sacking on Wearside back in December.

Donny’s previous boss Darren Moore’ moved on to manage Sheffield Wednesday, leaving Andy Butler in charge.

Rovers are currently 12th in League One on 57 points, leaving them six points adrift of the play-off spots.

Sunderland and Swansea City are interested in signing Marc Leonard when the midfielder’s Brighton and Hove Albion contract expires in the summer transfer window.

That’s according to the Daily Record, who state that the soon-to-be free-agent Leonard is a man in demand.

The 19-year-old is said to be weighing up offers from the Swans and the Black Cats.

*Former Sunderland and England striker Kevin Philips spoke about Sunderland’s rumoured £60 million transfer budget if they get promoted to the Championship this season.

“It would be massive. It would be one of the biggest budgets in the Championship, if not the biggest. It is huge money. Let’s hope that they get there so Lee Johnson has the chance to spend that kind of money.

“If Sunderland do get promotion, and that money is spent wisely, with a full crowd back in the Stadium of Light, you start to get a little bit excited. We need to get there first though. There is still a lot of work to be done on the pitch this season.”
