STORY:

Steps taken to try and tackle problem on busy stretch of Sunderland Road.

Bryony Fucile: It is literally going to do absolutely nothing. The only solution is traffic lights, that junction is a death trap! Had a few near misses myself!

Linda Brown: Why was this ever necessary? This junction has not magically appeared it had been there all of my life. That road is chaotic between 3-6pm. Why couldn’t a small roundabout have been built or two sets of lights not just a set of lights controlled by pedestrians. It's a road to be totally avoided now, go the Wheatsheaf route it's much much better.

Angela Young: The road has been like this for years. Feel like you are taking a chance every time you cross. Very dangerous.

Joe Devlin: In theory, this is a good idea. In practice, it's unlikely to work.

Sean Donkin: Personally I’d build student accommodation on it, that’ll stop the problem.

Laura Mordey: Why don’t they just add a mini roundabout or traffic lights? Like the rest of the roads in Sunderland.

Zoe Brown:

Unless people are going to get fined for entering the box, this is an absolute waste of time.

Samantha Kennedy: Nightmare of a junction. Not for the hesitant drivers, be there all day.

Davy Robson: Too many hazards in a short space of time. Until someone is killed on the second badly positioned Zebra crossing, nothing will be done.

Phil Carr: Get traffic speed camera lights on this before somebody is killed, speed ramps as well.

Leanne Day: It’s traffic lights that are needed not a box that everyone ignores anyway.

Stephen Nash: Should open bottom of Carley Road and build road through back of golf course of Emsworth Road to Newcastle Road to ease cars using junction.

Lee Daly: Was this there a big plan to make it safe? What a joke?
