STAR TREK: LEGENDS PLATFORM: IOS PRICE: £4.99 PER MONTH WITH APPLE ARCADE

The fate of the universe is in your hands. Star Trek: Legends brings in a number of familiar faces from across the hit franchise. Coupled with a brand new story centred around the mysterious Nexus – as seen in the Generations era – there is plenty for fans to marvel over, in this turn-based combat RPG, not least of all, the references and deep dialogue. With over 40 characters available to recruit, each has their own special abilities that can be used to defeat enemies standing in your way. There’s lots of variety to combat and some unique attacks too, such as the power to demoralise foes into giving up. Being an Apple Arcade exclusive mobile title, there are no annoying further paid elements within the game in your way, making it possible to just fully enjoy the experience.

WHAT THE DUB?!

PLATFORM: XBOX, PLAYSTATION, SWITCH, PC PRICE: FROM £5.99

At a time when many are still separated, What The Dub?! offers some cheap, light-hearted fun, but can also be played together when we are eventually allowed to mix indoors again too. The idea is simple: each round, a video from an old movie plays, with missing dialogue. Players must each enter their funniest, wittiest or goofiest replacement dub line, and at the end of each round, you vote for the best

one. It will certainly bring about a laugh or two, but may not be a game you’ll be switching on too regularly. Each player will need their own internet-connected device to enter their results, too.

BLACK LEGEND

PLATFORM: XBOX, PLAYSTATION, SWITCH, PC PRICE: £24.99

Set in the 17th century, Black Legend sees you lead a group of mercenaries attempting to free the gloomy city of Grant from a madness-inducing fog, with the focus on battling a cult of fanatics commanded by Mephisto and dissipating the dangerous fog. You are able to roam around the city

and the story is an engaging one, but gameplay mostly comes to life in combat scenes, which are turnbased. Though alchemy is a great leverage to combat, these scenes can be really complex to succeed at, and it’s not always entirely clear what you need to do. In fact, while playing, it started to become very frustrating to progress. There are some very welcome side quests to embark on though.

WONDERBOX

PLATFORM: IOS

PRICE: £4.99 PER MONTH WITH APPLE ARCADE

Developers certainly thought outside the box when creating Wonderbox, an adventure title where you can take on a series of mini challenges, confronting enemies and puzzles along the way. While the main game is good, its real strength lies in the ability to create your own box-sized adventures and share them with others. This creates an endless cycle of games to enjoy, and it’s actually really fun to make your own, testing your creative skills too. You can even play together with friends online, which, all in all, is quite a lot to pack into a mobile game. Controls are pretty simple, requiring you to do basic navigation like change the camera angle and jumping, while also using weapons to progress.
