Washington United manager Cameron Thompson has challenged his players to build on their impressive 3-2 win against Chester-le-Street United.

Thompson’s side got off the mark in their Alan Hood Charity Cup Group Two campaign as a brace from George Pinder and a Brandon Ward strike gave them a valuable three points.

The Washy boss was left with “a really good feeling” after the win and is hoping to see more of the same from his side.

He told The Echo: “The challenge now is to keep improving and keep building on good performances like we saw on Saturday.

“Our main aim is to be ready for next season, refine the small details and challenge within the league and cups – but getting three points against a good Chesterle-Street United side was a really good feeling.

“It was an intense battle, but we are pleased to come out on top and hopefully we can carry on this momentum into the next few weeks.”

Horden CW were left empty-handed despite scoring four times in their tie at Richmond Town.

Marc Moon, Peter Crawford, Hayden Pace and Joe Bell all scored for the visitors, but Richmond took the points thanks to a Kal Holbrook brace and a goal each for James Muir, Mark Lilley and Luke McCormack.

Silksworth CW manager Jamie Cole was left unhappy by his side’s 5-2 home defeat against Durham Corinthians in Group One.

Goals from Kieran Mitchell and Harry Munday were not enough for Silksworth as Cameron Arthurs, Steven Telford, Liam Butler, Matty Pennal and Kieron Richardson all found the net for the visitors.

Cole believes that his side’s

remaininggamesare“huge”if they want to secure a place in the semi-final.

Cole said: “We controlled the start of the game and took the lead early on, but we fell apart by conceding three goals.

“A few home truths were told at half-time, and again we dominated the secondhalf and scored again.

“Maybe we went a bit gung-ho, we conceded two more goals, in fact, we gifted them the goals.

“Now the remaining games are huge if we want to progress.”

Darlington RA were also on form as they battled to a 2-1 home win against Boldon CA.

Joe Peel and Rikki Gann were on target for the hosts, and they had to fight to claim the points after Levi Collins got Boldon back in the game.

Boldon CA manager David Crumbie said: “It’s disappointing, but like I have said from the beginning, we are happy to be back playing and with some players that are missing, we are just wanting to get minutes into the lads.

“The priority was to do well in the league, which we did before the league was null and void, so this group has done tremendously well.

“We started positively on Saturday, we looked dangerous from every attack.

“They scored with a free header from a free-kick and then got another with a mistake.”

Norton and Stockton Ancients eased to a 4-0 win at Annfield Plain thanks to a Liam Blyth brace, an own goal and an Alfie Turnbull effort.
