All-round team effort helps Whitburn tame Hetton Lyons

Whitburn claimed a 41-run home win against Hetton Lyons in the Dukes ECB North East Premier League on Saturday.

Whitburn made 244-7 at home to Hetton Lyons. Ross Richardson (35), Chris Greaves (50) and Gareth Welsh (33no), while Ben McKinney took 3-33.

The Lyons then replied, with Karl Turner making (39) and McKinney with the bat (36), as Matthew Muchall (3-20) took early wickets.

However, Chris Smith dug in for 53 runs, but they were eventually all out for 203, as Ewan Jenkins claimed 3-40.

Washington only managed 106 all out, as they hosted South Northumber­land.

Although Josh Wilson made 31, Jonathan Wightman stole the show claiming 5-27 from his 10 overs. South North then knocked off the required runs, for the loss of four wickets, with Christophe­r Hewitson scoring 37 not out.

Sacriston totalled 207-7 at home to Burnmoor, thanks to 52 runs from Martin Hubber and 50 from Daniel Thexton, as Graeme Bridge claimed 3-52.

The visitors started brightly, as Ross Greenwell made 76 from 77 balls, but then Ryan Pringle smashed 68 from 23 balls, which included seven fours and six sixes for a quickfire total of 210-4, in 30.4 overs.

Chester-Le-Street made 308-5 at Benwell Hill.

Jacob McCann scored 103 from 126 balls, while George Harrison added 48, Liam Simpson 43 not out and Andrew Smith 36.

Benwell opener Kyle Coetzer scored 51, while Amaan UlHaq claimed 3-42, but then Mohsin Mukhtar with 37 and Peter Halliday with an excellent century of 106 not out, put on 123 runs for the fifth wicket, in a final score of 275-5.

Eppleton hosted Burnopfiel­d who made 269-9.

Opener John Oswell scored (76), plus 84 runs from Mitchell Killeen, while Andrew Ebdale took 4-45 with the ball.

The home side struggled as Ben Robinson claimed 4-49, but despite some stubborn batting from Jack McBeth (57) and Andrew Ebdale (28no) as they put on 60 runs for the last wicket, they ended up on 215 all out.

Tynemouth racked up 271-9, at home to Felling. Ben Debnam made 47 and Matthew Brown 46, while David Mansfield smashed 55 from 42 balls.

Felling then lost early wickets, as Owen Gourley (3-33) and then Dan McGee (3-34), bowled them out for a total of 180.

In Division One, Philadelph­ia lost at home to Blaydon, as they only managed to score 116 all out.

Graham Clark with 4-13 ensured a comfortabl­e total to chase down, for the visitors.

Clark with the bat, then got his team over the line on 118-6, with 49 not out, despite Stevie Wright claiming three early wickets.

Boldon lost at home to Gateshead Fell, by eight wickets, as Richard Smith scored 100 not out, alongside Oliver Green who made 55 not out in a total of 224-2.

Earlier, the home side had made 223-8, thanks to 41 from Karl Bellerby and 56 from Joseph Coyne, while Jonathan Conolly returned figures of 4-47.

Shotley Bridge won at home to Ashington by six wickets, despite England Internatio­nal Mark Wood in their ranks as a batsman (he made 4).

Jack McCarthy however, scored an excellent 102 and Sean McCafferty 56 in a final total of 219.

In reply, the home side had Daniel Anderson to thank, as he made a brilliant 110 from 135 balls, to see his team to 220-4.

In Readers Durham & Northeast Division One South Shields batted first at Bill Quay, with Ben Scott scoring 45, Oliver Stedman 47, and Sam Embleton added 36 runs, to get them up to a total of 190 all out, with Paul Bentham and Liam Brophy each taking three wickets apiece.

Quay were then reduced to just 76 all out, Alex Thompson claiming 3-9, alongside Chris Stewart, Chris Nichol and Embleton, who took two wickets each, to claim a 114run win.

Littletown were asked to bat first, at home to Durham City. Jonathan Davis made 40 and Bryan Conlin a useful 40 not out as they struggled to 152 all out, with Callum Steel taking 4-45 and Dom Scott 4-18, with the ball.

In reply, City opener Dom Scott made 31 and wickets then began to tumble, but with Ollie Martyn-Hemphill making 58 not out and Izaak

Beck 21 not out, they put on 79 unbroken runs to win the game by six wickets with 1564.

Despite Dawdon opener Steven Gale making an excellent 143 not out from 146 balls, which included 26 fours and a six, while James Dent added 35, as his team hit 229-4, they still lost by nine wickets at Brandon.

The home side batted very well with Gordon Muchall making a fine century (104no) from just 61 balls and Matthew Brown hit 89 not out from 104 balls, in a winning total of 233-1, from just 30.5 overs.

In Division Two, Ryhope travelled to the Playing Fields, to take on Hunwick and came home with a seven wicket win.

The home side made 1478, Jack Mensforth made 33 not out and Michael Thorpe took 3-16. In reply, Mathew Kirtley hit 45 not out and Scott Lawrence 30 not out, to seal a win.

Murton had a three-wicket win at home to Boldon CA.

The visitors totalled 152 all out, Stuart Smith hitting 32, while Keith Chapman took 4-11. Jordan Vout then smashed 66 not out to see his team win on 153-7.
