Welfare Park’s dropped points puts Peterlee in pole position for title

Dawdon Welfare Park dropped more points last weekend when they were held to a 3-3 draw by Easington CIU and it now looks likely that Peterlee Catholic Club will take the SSK Recruitmen­t Peterlee and District Premier Division title this season.

CIU registered through two goals from James Watson and a strike from Ethan Wood while Denver Morris, Jack Walker and Danny Lay replied for the Welfare Park.

South Hetton Cricket Club eased to the points with goals from Brandon Cook, Liam Houghton and Karl Anderson in their defeat of Shotton Comrades. A brace from Jordan Garside plus efforts from Stephen Francis and Callum Haswell propelled Easington Lane WMC to a 4-2 success over Easington Southside, who replied through Michael Lee and Michael Fox.

In the FA Sunday Cup Peterlee Catholic Club lost 3-0 to Campfield FC.

In the First Division, braces from Peter Crawford, Joe Bell and Jake Briggs plus a goal from Josh Stradling saw Horden JD’s Bar defeat Sherburn United 7-2 while Easington Leather Cap beat Wingate Howden 8-3.

A hat trick from Dean Bulmer was not enough for Seaham Parkside as they lost 4-3 to Seaham Marlboroug­h, who prevailed thanks to Tom Hudson, Lewis Wilkinson, James Thompson and Niall Cowell.

Peterlee Helford United had Matthew Smith, Danny Naylor and Rhys Turnbull on target in the 3-1 win over Thornley Harrys Bar and Michael Charlton and Adam Wilson netted for Seaham the Knack in a 2-0 win over Peterlee Hearts.

Second Division leaders

Hetton Lyons FC thumped Easington Victory 10-0 thanks to four from Kieran Bridon, Matthew Wray’s hattrick,Scott Henderson’s brace and Michael Brunning’s goal.

Horden Legion cruised past Horden Labour Club 7-1 with two apiece from Philip Robinson and Ethan Maddison and goals from Morgan Hunter, Ryan Devine and Martin Basley. Simon Hall replied for the Labour Club.

Haswell Oddfellows Arms returned to winning ways when Ryan Rookes’ double and an effort from Bob Lewis inspired victory over Easington Welfare.

Peterlee Acre Rigg Social lost 9-0 to Roseberry Park with John Brown (4), Ryan Dinsdale (3), Tom Lawson and Owen Taylor all on target. East Durham FSS edged Horden United 5-3 in an eight goal thriller.
