Skipper leads from the front as Sunderland claim the spoils

Sunderland beat Philadelph­ia by seven wickets at Ashbrooke, and are now fourth in the Dukes ECB North East Division One.

The visitors made 152 all out, thanks to 36 from Shaun Smith, but Safyaan Sharif (329) and Joseph Stuart (4-33) pegged them back.

An unbeaten 70 from skipper Greg Applegarth and 40 from Micky Allan saw their team to 153-3.

Boldon lost at Crook despite posting 210-9. Karl Bellerby hit 55 and Riccardo Small-Boyce made 61, while David Embleton claimed 4-36. The hosts’ Steve Chapman crafted 76 and Stuart Newton 56 in their 212-5.

Castle Eden won at Gateshead Fell by 73 runs. They posted 275-5, thanks to Ben Simpson scoring an excellent 113 not out, with Bilawal Iqbal adding 88.

The home side lost early wickets but Richard Smith (39), Sam Roseby (30) and Thomas Pinkney (67no), resisted to reach 202-9, with Keith Bailey claiming 3-15.

Shotley Bridge lost off the last penultimat­e ball, as they set Newcastle a revised target of 263 from 42 overs.

Earlier, Shotley’s Matthew Potts hit a brilliant 142 not out, with Ross Burden adding 62 in a total of 270-8. Ross Sinclair bagged 5-45. In reply, the leaders had Benjamin Mussett (82), Bobby Green (32) and Liam Trevaskis (75) to thank in reaching 263-6.

Lanchester scored 176 but lost at Ashington. Greg Patterson (39) and Charlie McPhail (40) and Daniel Storey (37no) led the visitors’ knock. In reply, the home side had to rely on Ben Harmison (70) and Jack McCarthy (40) to get them home on 177-5.

In the Premier League, Chester-le-Street piled on the runs at home to Tynemouth, scoring 270-7 with Jacob McCann (43), George Harrison (48) and Quentin Hughes (89) at the helm, while Joshua Koen claimed 3-52.

Liam Simpson (3-49) removed both openers before Michael Jones (61) and Muhammad Saad (83) dug in. Matthew Brown hit 50 but John Harrison and Andrew Bell cleaned up the visitors for 242.

Whitburn decided to bat first at Felling but Abdul Ameer (4-28) and Harry

Munton (4-39) skittled them out for just 120.

In reply, the home side were thankful to Sean Dickson’s 60 not out, to secure victory for his team on 123-3.

Washington made 148 all out at Hetton Lyons, Josh Wilson (38) top scoring, but they collapsed as Jack Scott claimed 4-8.

Graham Pickering claimed the first four wickets but Stuart Walker (49 no) and Robert Talbot (44 no) put on 82 for the sixth wicket to see Lyons home on 153-5.

Burnmoor score only 120 and visitors Benwell Hill knocked off the runs for the loss of six wickets.

Sacriston had Jonny Bushnell (47) to thank at Burnopfiel­d, in a first innings score of 208-8, while Daniel Thexton added 54. Burnopfiel­d struggled at first, but rallied to 2018 in the end.

South North have decided to bat first at home to Eppleton and made a massive 2747. Simon Birtwisle made 44, while Solomon Bell (61) and Chris Hewison (92), put on 144 runs for the third wicket. The visitors made a strong reply, scoring 239-9 off their allocated 49 overs.

South Shields went top of Readers Durham & Northeast Cricket League Division One with their 264-6 total at home to Littletown.

Chris Rainbow (42), Oliver Stedman (37), Eliott Campbell (70) and Sam Embleton (68no) shone with the bat. The visitors’ skipper Gregg Arundel made 65 but Chris Nichol (5-25) had the final say as Littletown were all out for 149.

Second placed Esh Winning scored 222-7 at Durham City, courtesy of David Lawlor (42), Shahid Khan (30) and Omar Shahid (45no). Adam May took 4-54.

City struggled as Jonathan Hodgson claimed 3-32 but Nick Howe (32), Tom Reynolds (68no) and Jack Sissons (50no) pushed them to 196-7.

Ushaw Moor won a close game by six runs, at Marsden. The visitors made 214-8, mainly thanks to Lee Hayton (73), while Faz Hussain helped himself to 5-59.

Connor Surtees returned 3-21 and although Patrick Jackson and Scott Oliver (both 39) rallied, Steven Milburn (3-51) and Bryan Potts (2-47) cleaned up to leave the home side on 208 all out.

Seaham Harbour are top of Division Two, even though they struggled at first against Boldon CA.

Sam Sanderson claimed 3-23 but Niall Cowell hit 90 not out and Greg Davison added

33 not out in a total of 195-6.

The home side collapsed to 35-5, and were all out for just 58 in total, as Dane Wilson with (3-27) and Jordan Wilson (2-8) secured a 137-run success.

Ryhope are second, after they beat Murton at home by just one run. Opener Michael Thorpe made 30, but they collapsed to 92 all out, as Alan Welburn 4-25 and Josh Greenfield 3-3, took control.

However, Sagar Udeshi (3-19) and Liam Stores (4-17) fought back to bowl the visitors out for 91.

Tudhoe are third after their 154-run home win

over Peterlee. Andrew Carrick (50), Cort Lynn (45) and William Jewitt (34) inspired a total of 210-9, while Daniel Devine claimed 3-53 and J Willetts 3-35.

The visitors crumbled to 56 all out, with bowlers Reece Wood (4-26) and William Jewitt (5-14) in control.

Silksworth lost by 42 runs at home to Hunwick, who posted 135 all out, thanks to Chris Pratt (33). Robbie Jones and Gary McAvoy claimed three wickets each.

The home side were all out for 93 with Matthew Thrower (4-31) and Stephen Newton (526) doing the damage.
