College lecturer in the running for prestigious national award
A college lecturer has been shortlisted for a prestigious national award.
New College Durham Lecturer Colin Galley is in the running in the Worldskills Hero category of the TES Further Education Awards.
The awards aim to recognise the achievements of the further education sector and the Worldskills Hero award recognisesthededicatedprofessionals who go the extra mile to support students taking part in regional, national and international skills competitions.
Colin, who is lead practitioner in foundation studies at the collage, in Framwellgate Moor, Durham, was nominated for his commitmenttoco-ordinatingWorldSkills competitions and skills events for students with special educational needs and disabilities students.
He has also helped to establish a regional network of ten colleges and sixth forms and has created a calendar of
events that take place across the North East.
He said: “I have been involved with the WorldSkills competitionsforseveralyears now. Taking part in competitionshugelybenefitsstudents asitsupportstheirindividual growth,resilienceandtransition into further study or employment. The competitions are an excellent way of showcasing the students’ skills.”
