Hospital bosses in Sunderland are looking for opinions on plans for an iconic new eye hospital in the city.

South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust are aiming to built the new hospital as part of the city’s masterplan for the Riverside and is keen to hear from as many people as possible to ensure the new building providesthe best experience for patients, staff and visitors.

Healthcare leaders have extendedthe period for people to comment on the plans, which were announced by the Trust in March and an additional online public information event will give people the chance to find out about the designs, give feedback and ask any questions about the project.

The event will be hosted by Sunderland Eye Infirmary staff and will take place on Tuesday, May 11, between 6.30pm and 7.30pm at https://www.eventbrite. com/e/online-public-engagement-our-vision-for-a-neweye-hospital-in-sunderlandtickets-153474998853

Tina Morell, project manager for the new hospital, said: “There is no doubt that the current building is dated and no longer fit for purpose.

"We want to make sure that we have listened to the views of public as well as staff as we draw up the plans for the new building.” People can also join the online event or focus group by registering at www.stsft.nhs.uk/neweyehospital/getinvolved or emailingstsft. SEI@nhs.net.
