Contracts awarded for £1.5m bridges work
Two key bridges in Sunderland are to get £1.5m of maintenance work done on them.
Esh Construction is to carry out the work at the Nissan Way Interchange on the A1231 Sunderland Highway and the Chartershaugh Bridge over the River Wear at Fatfield.
In a contract worth just over £1m, structural maintenance works will be done on both the east bridge and west bridge on theNissan Way Interchange – including beam re-painting, and concrete repairs.
Esh will also work alongside the Environment Agency and the Port of Sunderland to ensure the watercourse is protected while it undertakes a £522,000 contract for repairs to the 46-year-old
Chartershaugh Bridge, which carries the A182 across the River Wear.
