Second Division title and promotion are now Hetton Lyons’ to lose

-

Hetton Lyons are runaway leaders of the SSK Recruitment Peterlee and District Sunday League Second Division and whether they claim the title or not is now in their own hands.

They have now won 15 times in 17 matches and have a 14-point lead over Horden Legion and though Legion have three games in hand, winning them all would still see them five points adrift.

The Lyons last weekend hammered Peterlee Acre Rigg Social 7-0, with two goals apiece from Matthew Wray and Scott Henderson, plus efforts from Jon Weirs, Steve Freeman and Jack Barrow.

Two goals from Jack Appleby was not enough for Seaham Oddfellows Arms when they lost 6-2 to third-placed Roseberry Park, while a Stephen Fletcher hat-trick and two goals apiece from Ian

Rickaby and Adam Fairlamb enabled Easington Victory to beat Horden United 8-0.

East Durham FSS got the better of Horden Labour Club, winning 4-3, and a brace from Brandon Collin and efforts from Matt Chidley and Dean Wallace paved the way for Haswell Oddfellows to take the points in their 4-0 win over Easington Welfare.

In the Premier Division, Peterlee Catholic Club kept their 100 per cent record intact with a 6-0 win over Murton Colliery, with two goals each coming from Chris Wallace and Craig Foster. Scott Thompson and Michael Robson also netted.

A hat-trick from Jamie Bennett helped set up a comfortable 9-2 win for Shotton Comrades over basement club Easington Southside.

In the Durham County Sunday Cup, a goal from

Denver Morris helped Dawdon Welfare Park to a 1-1 draw against Witton Park Rose and Crown, and they progressed to the next round after winning the penalty shootout 4-2.

Also progressing on penalties were Easington Lane WMC. They too finished 1-1 after 90 minutes against Hebburn Legion, with Stephen Tilley their marksman.

In the First Division, Ben Henderson hit four goals for Easington Leather Cap as they hammered Seaham Marlborough 7-3, and a brace from Matthew Smith, along with further goals from Jake Healer and Dan Balding, gave Peterlee Helford a 4-1 win against Seaham Parkside.

Seaham the Knack and Wingate Howden drew 1-1, with Brent Oxenham and Dave Cummings scoring, and Thornley Harry’s Bar and Peterlee Hearts tied 2-2.
