Older drivers back extra testing under ‘flexible licence’ proposals.

Greg Henderson: What’s the point of passing your test and being retested?

Rosalind Grant: No need. They are safer and more considerate on the roads than a lot of younger people who are always in a rush, tail gate, flash their lights to get past, don't indicate very often. Drive past when stationary cars are on their side of the road. Were they never taught the way older people were?

Jacqueline Nelson:

I am 74, driven many thousands of miles all over the country since 1965. Still drive everywhere. Not one incident. I despair at some younger drivers and wonder how they passed their test!

Mary Bittel: No way we are much safer drivers than most of the younger ones.

Dennis Gilbertson: There should be retest every five years for all drivers.

Karen Johnson: After 70 yes, 60 is a bit too early.

Reg Miles: I'm 73 and drive all over plus tow a caravan. No accidents in all the years driving. Would take any test, but why have to pay. I gave up my HGV at 66 because it was costing to much, £100 a year for a doctor’s medical.

Smithy Wilkins: Makes sense but would be better retesting all ages.

Angela Jarrett: Here here, I'm out on the roads all the time and they are totally oblivious of cars around them, doing 27 in a 40 zone, 30 in a 60, they clearly need to update their highway code intake. Many of these elderly drivers didn’t even take a test back in the day !!!! Not safe at all.

Shelley Harper: Think everyone should be retested after a set number of years.

Patrick Lesca: You should educate youngsters to behave on the road. Over 60s are more considerate on the road, no need to be retested. You know when it’s time to stop driving. Simple as that.

Janis Hall: I agree if it would bring their car insurance down.

Rosalind Grant: No.
