Cole hoping Silksworth end the year on a big high

-

Silksworth CW manager Jamie Cole is hoping to make amends for his side’s “worst performance of the season” when they visit Shildon Reserves on Saturday.

The Railwaymen’s second string inflicted a 2-0 home defeat on Silksworth in their first meeting of the season in mid-August.

Cole’s side have improved since that reverse and head into Saturday’s meeting sat in fifth place in the Wearside League table after a fourmatch unbeaten run.

The Silksworth boss reflected on that defeat earlier in the campaign and expressed his determination to end 2021 on a high.

He told The Echo: “It’s a tough game but we owe them one.

“What happened in the home game was arguably the worst performance I’ve seen from us during the season.

“If we cut out defensive mistakes, as a team, we can match anyone in the Wearside League on our day.

“Hopefully, we can finish the year on a high with a positive result this Saturday.”

Cole confirmed Elliott Tench is the only playing missing from his squad for the game.

Farringdon Detached could leapfrog Silksworth in the table if they take three points from their visit to Annfield Plain and Cole’s side fail to win at Shildon.

Washington United have a whole host of players missing as they round off their fixtures for the year with a trip to Darlington RA.

Cameron Thompson is without the services of Craig Foster, Stan Allison, Mark Parvin, Rhys Hood, Odyssey Begka and Fergus Howes for the game at Brinkburn Road.

The United boss is also without the suspended Alex Gudgeon but James Chapman is available once again and could make his first appearance of the season.

Elsewhere on Saturday, bottom of the table Coxhoe Athletic go looking for their first win of the season when they host Richmond Town.

Gateshead Leam Rangers can move to within three points of leaders Chester-leStreet United with a home win against West Auckland Tunns and Shotton Colliery are targeting a first win in three games when they visit struggling Norton and Stockton Ancients.
