More comments on: What are your fondest memories of trips to Newcastle Road baths?

Anne Hyde: Learnt to swim with Grange Park School. I liked going to the baths with friends after school. Then we used to get a hot oxo drink with crackers.

Hilary Buttigieg: Used to go with mam, or friends in 1970's. Couldn’t actually swim until 11yrs, so just mucked about. Loved bovril and crisps after, or a hot choc. Once I had an allergic reaction to chlorine, where mouth and tongue swelled. Had to go GP pronto.

Julie Walker: Loved going every Sunday as a child. Loved getting a Highland Toffee afterwards as a treat too. Ken Routledge: Sunderland Scout swimming gala's held there, some organised by me and my late wife Sheilagh.

Gary Button: Amazing place helped me massively with my mental health early 2000’s used to go every day do 40 lengths and switch off. Miss the place but thanks for the memories.

Sue Potter: One of the many baths I trained at when I was a competitive swimmer many years ago, from swimming for Sunderland Metro to representing England.

Mark Johnson: Going to swim there with my old man most Sundays of my early teens. Treasured memories.

Hazel Hedinburgh: My sister and I sometimes went twice in one day. Second visit putting on a cold still wet “costume” was a nightmare.

Sharon Hall: Walking through the disinfectant going in and coming out was freezing!! Bovril and beefy crisps when we came out.

Tracy Mcmahon: Best swimming baths when growing up, cup of bovril and fizzy lizzy chew bar when you came out, think it cost 12p to get in.

Caroline Harrison: I had one of my birthday parties there. We had the whole pool to ourselves with loads of inflatables. Brilliant!

Patricia Scoular: Many many happy memories of Newcastle Road baths, too numerous to mention them all. Lovely days.
