Seaham Red Star manager Mark Collingwood believes the seeds of his side’s impressive win against West Auckland Town were sewn in last weekend’s defeat against Consett.

Collingwood’s men put in a strong display against the currentNorthernLeagueDivision One leaders before falling to a 3-2 defeat – but the positives from that performance were taken into a tough looking trip to West Auckland.

Red Star took a two-goal leadintohalf-time,astopscorer Adam Lennox found the net once again and West defender Gary Brown scored an owngoal.

The hosts missed a penalty in the early-stages of the second-half as David Lowson fired over the crossbar.

Red Star nerves were set on edge when Jordan Blinco halved their lead in injurytime, but they held on to claim a notable win and leave their manager delighted with the attitude of his young players.

Afterwards, Collingwood said: “It was an important win because we have lost a few.

“We played well against Consett and lost and then on Saturday we didn’t play as well as we did again

“It was a young side out there, sometimes when they are new to the league, it’s about confidence and belief.

“The Consett game gave them confidence to do what they did on Saturday and now it’sallaboutfollowingitupwith another win against Crook

Town next weekend.”

Sunderland RCA were unable to pick up a fourth win in five games, as a Bobby Taylor goal gave Ashington all three points at Sunderland LGV Park.

Elsewhere on Saturday, Thornaby failed to close the gap to Consett as they fell to a 2-0 home defeat against Newton Aycliffe.

Brian Atkinson’s side claimed a notable win at Teesdale

Park, thanks to goals from AndreiArdeleanandBenReay.
