Stewart hails West End after battling to draw with league leaders

Sunderland West End manager Steven Stewart praised his side after they claimed a point against Northern League Division Two leaders Heaton Stanningto­n.

Morgan Dart gave West End the perfect start to a major test when he fired them in front with just five minutes on the clock.

But they had to settle for a point as a reward for a hardworkin­g display following

Daniel Stephenson’s secondhalf equaliser for the visitors.

After the game, Stewart said: “When we look at it, we had the better of the chances and should have been two goals up. They had a lot of possession,somaybewer­anoutof steam a bit.

“I would have taken a point ahead of the game, but we are disappoint­ed it was a point, because we think it could have been all three.

“We just need to kick on from the positives of the draw and win as many games as possible.”
