Sunday football players focus on the league and cup competitio­ns

Easington Lane WMC, from the SSK Recruitmen­t Peterlee and District Sunday League, progressed to round four of the Durham County Sunday Cup after defeating Middleston­e Moor Masons Arms 2-1, thanks to goals from Ryan Taylor and Jordan Garside.

In the FA Sunday Cup, goals from Oliver Hotchkiss, Jack Pounder and Liam Dunn paved the way for Peterlee

Catholic Club to move into the next round after a 3-0 win over Belle Vue Rovers. In the same contest, Luke Thompson and Liam Appleby were on target for Murton Colliery FC but it was not enough as they suffered a crushing 6-2 defeat against Burradon & New Fordley.

A hat-trick from Thomas Bott and a double from Dan Foster helped Easington Mechanics secure a place in the semi-finals of the First Division League Cup beating Easington CIU 7-1 while East Durham FC in the Second Division League Cup also scored seven goals to reach the last four when they hammered Horden Labour 7-2, thanks to a Chris Black hat-trick helping them on the way.

In the George Ivey quarter-final first leg, goals from Michael Wilson, Michael Charlton, Shane Docherty and Adam Wallace enabled Seaham the Knack to defeat Peterlee Acre Rigg Social 4-2, while Easington Wefare enjoyed making progress at the expense of Shildon Institute, winning 4-0 to reach the semi-final of the Heart Foundation Cup.

Four second-round matches in the John & Pat McManus Memorial Cup were played and, in a close affair, a strike from full back Ryan Barrow saw Easington Welfare beat South Hetton Cricket Club.

A brace from Marc Taylor helped Seaham Marlboroug­h to a 2-0 win over

Peterlee Hearts and, in a five-goal thriller, Roseberry Park defeated Seaham Park FC 3-2, thanks to a strike from Tommy Lawson and a double from Ross Laundon. Dawdon Welfare Park had little trouble in reaching the third round when a Robbie Bird hat-trick and a brace from Kyle Bell helped them on their way to an 8-0 win over Peterlee Helford United.

In the First Division, a Jack Appleby hat-trick saw Seaham Oddfellows Arms beat Wingate Howden 3-2, with a Dave Cummings double for Howden.
