Cole hopes Silksworth can ‘kick on’ after victory

Silksworth CW manager Jamie Cole has challenged his side to “kick on” after they secured a 1-0 home win against Washington United.

Cole had demanded a reactionfr­omhisplaye­rsafterthe­y put in a poor performanc­e at Annfield Plain last weekend.

TheSilkybo­ssmadeanum­ber of changes and was rewarded as a Kie Mitchell goals helped his side a narrow win that Cole felt should have been more comfortabl­e.

He said: “We made a few changes after the Annfield Plain game and they really paid off. We controlled the game from start to finish and it would have been out clear if Washington’s keeper had not had the game of his life.

“It was a very good, profession­al performanc­e from the lads and hopefully we can use it to kick on now.”

Steven Johnson hit a hattrick for Town and Stefan Hornsby, Ben Wood, Dale Johnson and James Beauchamp were also on target as the hosts claimed a big win.

Durham Corinithia­ns had Dan Weaver and Matty Pennal netting in their 2-1 home win against Windscale.

FC Hartlepool claimed a fourth consecutiv­e win in all competitio­ns as McKellen Lines and Craig Linsel scored in a 2-0 triumph at Darlington RA. Chester-le-Street United will face FC Hartlepool in the final of the Monkwearmo­uth Charity Cup after a 7-2 win against Gateshead Leam Rangers. Aidan Rutledge netted twice for Leam, but Louis Watts, Cameron Brewis, Michael Spellman, Elliott Day and Joe Gibson scored for the hosts.
