Behind the scenes of the comeback of legend Gary Numan
In May 2022, 40 years after he last played there, pioneering pop synth legend Gary Numan returned to the Wembley Arena for the comeback of a lifetime. It was his first performance at the world-famous venue since 1981, when Gary shocked his fans by announcing his retirement, stalling a meteoric rise which had included two number one hit singles and three number one albums.
Sky Arts’ new documentary The Numan Method (working title) accompanies Gary Numan on his road back to Wembley and will be aired in August.
With unprecedented access, it tells the moving story of a young man struggling to cope with the pressure cooker of fame, and unable to believe in his own immense talent.
With the help of his wife Gemma, Gary found strategies to regain confidence, focus the ‘superpower’ of undiagnosed Asperger’s and return, finally, to Wembley – now a deeply respected original artist and a stronger, happier fulfilled person.
Featuring Dave Grohl, JeanMichel Jarre, Trent Reznor, Hans Zimmer and Gazelle Twin.
Also coming to Sky this August is documentary The Princess. The story of Princess Diana is told exclusively through contemporaneous archive footage creating a bold and immersive narrative of her life and death.
Turning the camera back on ourselves, the film illuminates the profound impact she had and how the public’s attitude to the monarchy was, and still is, shaped by these events.
And then there’s the little mate of The House Of The Dragon - based on George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood and set 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones, the series tells the story of House Targaryen. Starring Paddy Considine, Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke, Emma D’Arcy, Steve Toussaint, Eve Best, Sonoya Mizuno, Fabien Frankel, and Rhys Ifans
