Durham County are back on track to set up Yorkshire tie

The Durham County B team bounced back from the previous loss against Northumber­land to beat Lancashire by 12 shots at Darlington Woodlands.

Across the green, Dairy Lane fielded four of the six skips, Ray Robinson put to bed his previous heavy loss to record a 23-11 win, while Jeff Wilson won 22-16.

The other two Dairy Lane skips both lost, Jimmy McAdoo 24-13 and Dale Oram 23-16.

Barnes Park’s Michael Davis dropped a last-end single to finish level, as Leadgate’s David Warnaby racked up a 31-19 win which sealed the 17-5 win.

Durham host Yorkshire today (2 pm) at Dairy Lane.

The A team are in Middleton Cup action today as they take on Cumbria at Gosforth, where the Cumbrian’s have won the last five meetings.

The Women’s A team had a torrid time in the latest round of Northern Trophy fixtures. In wet conditions at Lyndhurst, they were beaten 13080 by Yorkshire.

Locally Dairy Lane’s Norma Stephenson got home 2016, but there were defeats for Sunderland’s Lorraine Brehany 29-12 and Dairy Lane’ s Joan Rodgerson 17-9.

The A team head to Kirbymoors­ide for the Johns Trophy today when they take on Yorkshire.

There was better news for the Durham Women in the Walker Cup as they won a thriller 33-32 at Thirsk against Lancashire.

Dairy Lane’s Joan Rodgerson played out a 14-14 draw, while Consett Park’s Teresa Pearson got the vital 19-18 win. Durham head to the regional finals day on July 17 at York RI, with either Cumbria or Lincolnshi­re the opponents.

The Durham Women’s young gun’s were also in Amy Rose action, despite a tremendous performanc­e at York they missed out on an extra end going down 38-37 against Leicesters­hire.

The last 16 in the Men's County Championsh­ips have been played this week, and in the Pairs, Patrick and Peter Thomson moved into the last eight with a 24-13 home win over Silksworth Pumas’ Josh Halcrow.

In the quarter-finals they will host Stockton West End’s Dave Mallaby, who ended Dairy Lane’s Mal Peach’ s hopes 22-19.

There was better news for club-mate David Armstrong, a 20-14 win at Lyndhurst against Frank Close sets up a home quarter-final tie against Black hall’ s Paul Gorton.

The Pumas’ Jaxon McKenna went out losing 22-16 at home to Darlington RA’s Mark Jones.

In the Triples, Pu mas’ Neal Ridley went out 22-10 at RA against Peter Coul son, Barnes Park’s Bryan Sanderson had a smashing 22-10 home win over Dunston’s Alan Jobling, while it took two extra ends for the Pumas’ David Bolt to beat Owton Lodge’s Paul Stephenson 20-19. Bolt will head to Blackhall on Monday to face Paul Hartley, the tie will be streamed live from 6.30 pm.

The Four s County champions are out, RA’s Andrew lost a thriller at Dairy Lane as Mal Peach’s squad got home 20-19.

The Pumas’ Paul Baker lost at home 18-11 to Dunston’s Alex Bryden and Marine’s Peter Thomson beat New Herrington’s Colin Watson 15-13 and will head to Leadgate to face Garry Robson on Tuesday.

In the Two Bowl Singles, Dairy Lane’s Gary McPheators beat Consett Park’s Derek Met calf 14-11 and the Pu mas’ J axon

McKenna beat RA’s Dave Newman 16-5.

The other Pumas hope, Scott Baker, went out 17-7 at Elm Tree against David Fenwick.

In the Bowls England Over 60s Mixed Double Fours, Dairy Lane progressed to the area final after a 30-24 win at Hundens.

With the Earl Premier League taking a two-week break, it was Division One that grabbed the headlines this week.

Runaway leaders Seaham Town maintained their unbeaten start with a 5-1 win at Hylton Colliery, Usworth are there nearest challenger­s after they beat North Biddick 4-2, in the battle at the bottom, Houghton Town leapfrogge­d Washington after a comprehens­ive 6-0 win.

In Division Two, leaders New Herrington had a bye, so that allowed South Hylton to close within a point after they beat Thompson Park 5-1.

Pemberton beat Ryhope 6-0 and Sunderland’s search for a win goes on as they went down 6-0 at Whitburn.

The Swan Cup, holders Dairy Lane moved back to the top after a 5-1 win over Usworth. Silksworth’s 4-2 win at Marine moves them into second.

In Division Two, New Herrington came out on top in the top of the table clash with Washington.

The Herrington lads won 4-2 and go top,Roker Park’s 5-1 win at P ember ton moves them into second place. The battle of the bottom two saw Hetton Workmen’s leap frog Hylton Colliery with a 5½-½ win.

It was a good day for the Harold Howey leaders Barnes Park B as second placed Roker Marine A lost at home 3-1 to Washington B. Third placed Dairy Lane B lost at home 3-1 to the Silksworth Pumas and to cap a bad day for Dairy Lane, their A team lost 4-0 at North Biddick. Hetton Workmen’s search for a win goes on after a 4-0 loss at Houghton Town.

The Howey Division Two leaders Roker Marine B were held 2-2 at Pemberton B, but bizarrely second placed Hylton Colliery Welfare A were also held 2-2 at Washington A.

Chester-le-Street beat South Hetton 4-0, while P A had a cracking 3½-½ win at New Herrington.

There was finally a win for the Sunderland A lads, 4-0 at home against Barnes Park A, the win lifts Sunderland off the foot of the table.

It is all change in the after leaders Sea ham Town lost their unbeaten record in a rare 7-0 loss at New Herrington. Hetton Workmen’s went top after they beat Hylton Colliery Welfare 4½2½. The remaining game saw Thompson Park inflict a fifth defeat on Houghton Town 6-1.
