Plans for a new hot food takeaway in Sunderland city centre have been turned down by development chiefs.

Kev Spoors: I'd rather see a vacant property in use. Have you seen how many closed down and boarded up shops and premises we have!?

Sylvia Harris: Our Council state concerns about obesity among the reasons for rejecting the plan, pity they couldn’t have thought of that when passing the plans for the takeaway “extravaganza” being constructed at the toll bar crossroads.

Alan Cooling: The planners are quite happy with empty shops and a deserted town. Shows how good they are and shows why the town is dead. Labour has well and truly run the town into the ground.

Joan Eggleston: Do we really need any more eating places, I don’t think so. How many do we need for goodness sake?

Kevin Atkinson: Trying to shut small businesses down is the plan and its working, absolutely disgusting.

Susan Stewart: We need more small businesses, better prospects and incentives for small businesses to open in the city centre!

Brian Plunkett: Could do with an art store in the city centre to replace this previous art shop. It’s a shame it closed.

Sammy Agatha: If obesity is the claim then I can't understand how they gave the green light for a Greggs oulet on Villette Road, one of the most impoverished parts of the town.

Bob Langley: It's a bit late to worry about obesity.

Rebecca Gray: Don't need a takeaway, we need decent shops.

Sue Gray: How many takeaways does Sunderland need?

Ian Hardie: Takeaways are the last thing this town needs.

Shaun Sayers: I think that ship has already sailed.

Jessica Kenny: Gutted that shop is gone. Not much in town in the way of arts and crafts.
