Drive them off the roads
My wife and I have just enjoyed a two-week break, travelling all around the North East, visiting the coast and the countryside.
Our holiday took us to South Shields (the same day as the Will Young concert – the place was heaving), Seaham, Durham (surprisingly quiet), Saltburn, Whitby and Hartlepool (the Royal Navy museum is a real must).
The weather couldn’t have been better and we both commented on how lovely all these destinations were for anyone wanting to stay at home to holiday.
Yet on our travels we did come across one drawback – the standard of driving from some of the road-users was not only suspect, it was downright dangerous.
We lost count of the number of motorists who zig-zagged from one lane to another to speed up their journey, nipping in and out of gaps in the traffic which they should never have attempted.
On the flipside, we came across many drivers, tootling along at ridiculously slow speeds; many of them, it has to be said, appeared old and frail, causing obvious frustration to fellow motorists.
Worst still, on the A19 and A1 motorway, we witnessed several motorists who had been travelling on the outside lane/lanes, suddenly pull across the carriageway, in front of other drivers, to take an exit road at the very last minute – sheer madness.
How they didn’t cause an accident, I do not know, but they need to be taken off the roads before they injure or, worst still, kill someone as a result of their foolhardiness.
Perhaps the police could set-up roadside cameras to try to catch the culprits in the act?
