Sunderland clinch crucial win in battle to beat the drop

Sunderland blasted out visiting Tynemouth for just 130 as they claimed an important victory at the wrong end of the Dukes ECB North East Premier League table.

Tynemouth made just 130 as Kieran Water son took an impressive 5-32 from his 15 overs.

In batting, the Ashbrooke outfit had Ross Whitfield Jnr in fine form as he made 73 not out in their total of 131-3 to help guide them to a vital victory at the wrong end of the league.

Hetton Lyons, in second place, scored 210-8 at Benwell Hill thanks to Chris Martin (42) and Gary Scott (30), as Max Williamson claimed 3-41 with the ball.

The Hill replied positively, with opener Angus Guy scoring 86. His only support came in the form of 26 from Kyle Coetzer and 22 from Mohsin Mukh tar, which was enough to earn them a draw, finishing on 203-7. Aaron Feroz took 3-48.

Chester-le-Street were asked to bat first at home to Newcastle and made 237-7, mainly thanks to Quinten Hughes who made a patient 76 not out, while opener Jacob McCann made exactly 50.

Hughes then with the ball (3-30) made early inroads, as the visitors struggled to 77-4. But then Jesse Tashk off with 55 and Jacques du Toit with 95 not out saved the day as they guided their team to a winning score of 242-5.

South North batted first and made 237-9 declared, as they hosted Burnopfiel­d.

Solomon Bell made 53, Christophe­r Hewison 56, Sean Tindale 44 and a quick fire 52 from James Ruddick, while Matthew Oswell and James Radcliffe shared six wickets between them.

The visitors struggled as Jonathan Wight man and Sean Tindale claimed the first six wickets and then Tindale took another two late on, as Burn op field were all out for 180.

Callum Brown scored 33 and Ruairidh Barker 39 for the visitors, but the bowling of Wightman (4-71) and Tindale (4-61) was too much for them to contend with.

Eppleton were skittled for just 88 runs, when they entertaine­d Whitburn.

Matthew Muchall claimed an impressive 5-24 and Elliott Hearn chipped in with 4-28,

In reply the visitors also struggled, but Kevin D’ Al me ida steadied the ship with 44 not out and steered his side to victory on 92-4.

Burnmoor totalled 252-8 declared, at home to Felling.

Graham Clarke scored 62, Marcus Brown 58 and Alexander Simpson 49, while Paul Leonard took 4-55 from nine overs.

Felling crumbled to 38-5 at one stage, as Waqas Maqsood returned figures of 5-43, and their only scorer of note was Sebastian Allan with 72 not out, but it was enough to give them a share of the spoils, with a final total of 153-8.

In Division One, secondplac­ed Castle Eden declared on 243-9 when they welcomed Gateshead Fell to Parklands.

Benjamin Simpson hit 59, Keith Bailey added 30 and Philip Wim penny 66. Andrew John Porter took 3-60 with the ball.

In response, Gates head Fell were all out for 139, Sam Rose by their best with 30. Jonathan Malkin led the bowlers with 4-54.

Visiting Willington asked Philadelph­ia to bat and with a fantastic 175 not out from Nikhil Gang ta, along with 58 from Dan Pearson, Philadelph­ia declared at 297-4.

For the bowlers, Scott Steel took 3-69. Willington were all out for 212, despite good contributi­ons from Jamie Dass (57), Steel (43) and Steven Alderson (28). Adam McGuire (3-56) and Shaun Hauxwell (3-21) performed well with the ball.

Sacriston put visiting Washington in to bat and they declared on 238-3, with 85 from Michael Nun na nd 95 from Phil Nicholson.

Despite a fantastic 117 from opener Nathan Hall and 36 from Edward Foreman, the batting order fell apart towards the end and Sacriston were all out for 229.

Ash Thorpe took 3-55 and Matthew Richardson 3-27 for the bowlers.

Seaham Park were put in to bat when they visited leaders Ashington, and they were all out for 207, with 37 from John-ny Forster, 39 from Dale Shaw and 34 from Tom Nicholson.

In reply, Ashington made short work of their task, with welcome contributi­ons from Jack Jessop (86), Adam Nichol (46), Younas Ahmadzai (42no) and Ben Harmison (21no), in their total of 213-2.

Blaydon batted first when Shotley Bridge visited their Denefield ground. All out for 115, only Sam William Henderson with 44 contribute­d anything of note.

They were kept at bay by the bowling of Jon Hinrichsen (3-35) and Joe Gibson (3-23). Shotley Bridge got off to a slow start, but 38 not out from Ross Andrews helped them to victory with a final score of 120-6. Gary Stewart took the wickets with 4-40.

In Division One of the Readers Durham& North East Cricket League, South Shields made 235-7 in their 45 overs, at promotion chasing Seaham Harbour.

Th a rush a Fernando scored a brilliant 105 not out and Chris Rainbow added a useful 85 runs, while Dale Wilson took 3-43 with the ball.

Seaham then made a positive start, with 28 from opener Steven Gale, backed up with 41 from Paras Dogra and 28 each from Nathan Newton and Dane Wilson, but they fell short of their target, being all out for 179.

James Hutchinson performed best with the ball, taking 3-36.

Hylton entertaine­d Ry hope and the visitors scored 179-8, with Scott Lawrence top scoring with 34, while Steven-Lee Merrington claimed an impressive 5-37 with the ball.

The home side lost early wickets, being 37-4 a tone point. Shantanu Mishra contribute­d 64, but without support from his team-mates, Hylton were

defeated with a final score of 146-9.

John Errington was the pick of the bowlers with 3-37.

Littletown struggled against league leaders Brandon and were 129 all out.

T'Jhari Clarke top scored with 37, as Gordon Muchall claimed 3-27, and in reply the visitors had Muchall with the bat scoring 64 not out.

Chris Peareth added 46 not out in a final score of 130-1 in only 23.4 overs, to strengthen their position at the top.

Durham City smashed for 268-6 at home to Boldon, with Adam Khan scoring 63, George Pullinger 56 and Lewis Carney 53 not out.

Ian Male claimed 3-69 with the ball and in reply, Boldon struggled to 34-4, only J Carroll with 25 adding anything of note, as they crashed to defeat with a final score of 103 all out.

Martin Hubber claimed 3-27 and team mate Izaak Beck 3-22.

In Division Two, Peterlee were 158 all out, at home to Bill Quay. Scott Birks with 36 and Ellis Dunn 34 were the run scorers, while Mark Cuskeran and David Jago shared six wickets between them.

Quay started badly, but James Hudson scored 48 and Neil Cuskeran 54 not out, to lead them to a victorious 161-5, in 29 overs.

Visitors Murton put Boldon CA in to bat and they totalled 100-6.

Rob O’Brien (31) and Dominic Slater (55no) were best for the home team. In reply, Murton failed to get the required runs and were all out for 97.

Callan Salkeld was their top scorer with 26. James Danc e(422) and Sam Sanderson (3-13) inflicted the damage with the ball.

Durham City (2nds) piled up the runs at promotion seeking Tudhoe, as they made 294-5.

William Dobson cracked 122 from 114 balls, which included 21 fours and two sixes, while Timon Basu scored 55 in an opening partnershi­p of 175 runs.

The home side were out of the blocks fast, with Danny Hardaker scoring 69 in 65 balls, including ten fours and three sixes, and Daniel Gray hit 68 from 63 balls, including 11 fours and one six.

David Curry also added 36 not out. In 44 overs, Tudhoe took the victory with 295-5. Robbie Fyfe took 4-43 with the ball.
