Waterson’s five wickets in vain as Lyons scrape past Sunderland

In the Dukes ECB North East Premier League, Sunderland had a bad start at Hetton Lyons as they slumped to 66-5 thanks to Chris Ralston taking 3-25, while Micky Allan scored 31, and they eventually totalled 135 all out.

The Lyons then also struggled, as Kieran Waterson claimed 5-47 to reduce them to 79-6.

However, Rob Talbot, with a cool 29 not out, secured victory on 136-8.

Kevin D’Almeida scored an impressive 107 and Jack Burnham 137 from 89 balls, which included seven fours and 13 sixes, as Whitburn made a good start at home to Benwell Hill, despite losing Vishal Tripathi from the first ball of the match.

They totalled 326-9 declared in the end, to set a massive target.

The Hill then had Finn McCreath in good nick as he made 53, then Phillip Bell made 32, Max Williamson 34 and Peter Halliday 54 not out to close on 238-7.

Burnmoor made a good start in their game at Burnopfiel­d.

Riley Blunt hit 33 and Ross Greenwell made a useful 91, and then Alexander Simpson smashed 48 not out from 27 balls to give them a total of 276-6 declared.

The home side then lost early wickets as Waqas Mahmood seemed unplayable in taking 6-27, and then Graeme Bridge claimed 3-8 as Burnopfiel­d collapsed to 64 all out.

Ben Robinson was in good nick for Newcastle as they batted first at home to Eppleton.

He made 52 alongside Jacques Du Toit (47) as they totalled 177 all out, while Taj Wali and Andrew Ebdale shared eight wickets.

The hosts then had Colin Mann make 32 and Max Whinskill 58, while Du Toit claimed 3-45 and Jesse Tashkoff 3-23 as the match reached a close finish with the home side ending up 173 all out.

Chester-le-Street started terribly at Felling, as Paul Leonard ripped up the batting order taking 5-34 from

his 15 overs to reduce the visitors to 52-6.

However, Josh Wilson carved out a brilliant 106 not out from 116 balls, which included 12 fours and three sixes.

He put on 92 runs for the eighth wicket with John Harrison (38), and they eventually got up to 209 all out.

The home side then had Travis Norris score 38, then Francis Collins 37, as they finished on 185-6 chasing a revised target of 210 from 38 overs.

Tynemouth lost early wickets at home to South North.

Stuart Poynter made 31, but Calum Fletcher claimed 3-16 and Sean Tindale 5-42 as the Preston Avenue outfit were skittled for just 136.

The visitors wasted no time in securing another win, as Solomon Bell (74 not out) and Tshepang Dithole (43) guided them home to victory on 138-2.

In Division One, Seaham Park had a good win at home

to Crook.

The visitors crumbled to 10-4 but recovered to 122 all out, as Thomas Ferguson and Mubasir Khan shared six wickets, with Eddie Watson top scoring on 31 not out.

Seaham then knocked off their target for two wickets, as Dale Shaw hammered 74 not out and Martin Stephenson 30 not out, finishing on 126-2.

Philadelph­ia were thrashed at Gateshead Fell, as the hosts totalled 221-9 declared.

Ramanpreet Singh made 59 and Malik Javed 63, Shahid Khan claiming 5-47 with the ball.

In reply, Dan Pearson made 38 not out but his team succumbed to Sam Roseby, William Angus and Andrew Porter, who each claimed three wickets and bowled Phili out for just 66 runs.

Sacriston lost heavily at Shotley Bridge as the home side racked up 285-5 declared.

Daniel Anderson with 56 and Paul Greenwell, with a brilliant 139 not out, got the majority of the runs.

The visitors made just 186 all out, thanks to the bowling of Jon Hinrichsen, who took 6-35.

Washington had a losing draw at home to Castle Eden.

The visitors scored 203-8, with Philip Wimpenny making 38 and Jonathan Malkin 36, while Mark Watson claimed 4-32.

Thomas Colledge and Darren Hickey both scored 33, but they settled for the draw on 116-7 as Malkin and Ryan Ball shared seven wickets.

Lanchester racked up 266-9 at home to Blaydon, with Graham Brinton scoring 80 and Luke McCabe 71, while Abdul Ameer claimed 4-75 with the ball. Paul Underwood in reply hit 70, but the runs dried up with Pasindu Madushan taking 3-34 and they settled on 202-7.

Ashington’s opener Jack Jessop hit a brilliant 147 not out from 117 balls, which included 13 fours and three sixes, as his team reached 226-6 declared, but it was all in vain as the rain came and the game had to be abandoned.

In the Readers Durham & North East Cricket League, South Shields struggled at Brandon, as Jordan Grosert claimed 4-24 and Chris Stewart 3-40. Tharusha Fernando top scored with 56 in a total of 130. In a revised target due to rain, the league leaders won by scoring 760, with Lewis Newby hitting 44 not out.

Boldon had a good win at home to Marsden. They scored 176-6, thanks to Michael Walker (61) and James Groombridg­e (50 not out). They then bowled out the visitors for 149, as Quinton Boatswain with 3-37 and Ian Male’s 3-35 did the business with the ball.

Esh Winning batted well at home to Dawdon Welfare, with Karl Turner making 65 and Omar Shahid 56 not out, as they totalled 267-7. In reply, Dawdon collapsed to 95 all out, with Shahid claiming 3-16 and Paul Chivers 3-26.

Matty Kirtley made 40 for Ryhope as they struggled against the bowling of Zaheer Shahbaz (4-28) while entertaini­ng Littletown, and they eventually made 164 all out. In reply, the visitors lost early wickets and, chasing a revised target of 122 to win, they managed to get home on 124-5 thanks to James Sneller, who made 40 not out.

Hylton had no game this weekend.

In Division Two, Boldon CA lost out on the D/L method as they racked up 233-4, with Jason Jones scoring 50 and Rob O'Brien 99 not out. Quay were set 207 from 40 overs to win, and they made it thanks to Jeff Tudor’s 50 and 37 from Adam Rayner, finishing on 207-7.

Tudhoe missed out at Ushaw Moor, again by the D/L method.

They scored 134 all out, with Andrew Carrick top scoring on 35, while Scott Nattrass, Ihsan Ul-Haq and Michael Thorpe shared nine wickets between them. In reply, Ushaw were set 105 to win from 35 overs and, thanks to Heshan Liyanage and Steven Milburn both scoring 20-odd, they did, despite Danny Hardaker taking 5-40.

Langley Park & Bearpark beat the weather and opponents Peterlee as they chased a revised target of 86. They scored 88-5, Riaan Jacobs hitting a matchwinni­ng 41 not out, and despite Andrew Laidler taking 5-13. Earlier, the visitors had posted 128 all out, with Jason Spalding top scoring with 30, while Gareth Brixton and Robin Hiles shared six wickets between them.

Durham City (2nds) had no game this weekend.

In the Darlington Building Society NYSD ECB Premier League, Hartlepool were rained off at Feethams.

Opener Alex Metcalfe had made 52 as Darlington were asked to bat first. They had made 91-4 when the rain came and sadly washed out play.

In Darlington Building Society NYSD ECB Division One, Seaton Carew’s game at Guisboroug­h did not make the deadline.
