Bestselling Sophie introduces new heroine – finding love and secrets

- BY SUE WILKINSON

Bestselling author of the Shopaholic series Sophie Kinsella returns with another side-splitting novel about the madness of family life and a party to end them all. As usual, the Party Crasher is perfect beach reading – funny with the feel-good factor and full of laughter and the odd tear.

Kinsella’s writing process is unique. “When I’m planning a book, I tend to hang out at coffee shops or wander around the shops – anything except sit in front of a blank computer screen,” she said.

"But when I’m actually putting down words, I have a shepherd’s hut, with a desk, some shelves and big pinboards, where I pin up file cards when I’m plotting."

Her new standalone books is about family love, family tensions and what you might hear if they didn't know you were in the room.

The Talbots are having one last party at their family home. But Effie hasn't been invited. Effie's still not over her parents splitting up a year ago. Her dad and his new girlfriend are posting their public displays of affection all over Instagram.

Now they're selling the beloved family home and holding a’house-cooling’ party. When Effie receives only a last-minute ‘anti-invitation’, she decides to give it a miss.

Until she remembers her precious Russian dolls, safely tucked away up a chimney. She'll have to go back for them – but not as a guest. She'll just creep in, grab the dolls and make a swift exit. No one will know she was ever there.

Of course, nothing goes to plan. Not only does Effie bump into her ex-boyfriend, who she's very much not over, she can't find the dolls. As she clambers around dusty attics, she discovers truths about her family and herself.
