Lyons roar to move level in second place with home win

In the Dukes ECB North East Premier League, Burnmoor’s win at South North has opened up the title race as they are now just eight points behind the leaders.

Ryan Pringle scored 53, and Alexander Simpson added a quick-fire 58 from 63 balls and they ended up on 195-9 declared, as Jonathan Wightman claimed 4-37.

The champions then lost two early wickets, as Waqas Mahmood struck early blows (4-44), but Rob Peyton resisted with 47, but they were all out for 123.

Hetton Lyons are second and level on points with Burnmoor. They batted well at home to Tynemouth, with Ben Mckinney scoring 113 from 167 balls, which included 12 fours and a six, and Gary Scott 58, as they put on 106 runs for the third wicket before Robert Talbot blasted 39 not out from 20 balls as they declared on 269-5.

The visitors then had opener Dan Thorburn score 49, Esam Rahman 48 and Matthew Brown 35, but Christophe­r Ralston with 3-41 quickly cleaned the tail up and they were all out for 189, keeping Lyons’ title hopes alive.

In the big game at the bottom, Sunderland are now just 11 points from safety. They were asked to bat first at home to Whitburn. Daniel Shurben made 45, Chris Youlden 30 and Ross Whitfield Jnr 31 as they made 196 all out, while Matthew Muchall claimed 4-47 with the ball.

The visitors lost early wickets as Kieran Waterson (4-36) ripped out their batting, reducing them to 165, but Rafay Khan dug in for runs, but they were all out for 155, to give the Ashbrooke side a big boost in their survival hopes.

Eppleton struggled against the bowling of Sebastian Allison (5-40) and then Chris Goudie (3-19), at home to Felling. They were 10-5 at one stage, but Andrew Ebdale made 44 not out in a final total of just 111. Alan Mustard with 42 not out and Sean Dickson with 55 not out, soon got their team to victory on 115-1.

Chester-Le-Street had Burnopfiel­d in all sorts of trouble at Ropery Lane, due to Robbie Dawson taking 3-9, early on. However, opener David Seymour stood firm with 51 not out to carry his bat, but Amaan UlHaq and Josh Wilson shared six wickets and they were eventually all out for 121. Andrew Smith then hit 45 and Jacob McCann 54 not out, as they catered home for the win on 123-2.

In Division One, Washington eased their relegation woes with a win at Philadelph­ia. Phili scored 175 all out, thanks to top scorer Dan Pearson who made 65 runs, as George Fairbairn (5-41) and Mark Watson (3-33) doing the damage. Openers Michael Nunn (42) and Thomas Colledge (70) put on 117 runs for the first wicket, which eased them to victory on 1782.

Seaham Park had a winning draw at Blaydon. They totalled 248-9 declared, as Mubasir Khan hit a fine 168 from 132 balls, which included 18 fours and eight sixes, while Abdul Ameer and Phillip Miller shared seven wickets. Jamie Wightman then saved the match with 38 not out from 101 balls, despite Khan claiming 4-25, to finish on 133-8.

Crook and Willington also drew, with the visitors out of sight on 315-7 declared. Jamie Dass made a brilliant 176 from 163 balls, which included 23 fours and five sixes, while Cameron O'Donnell struck 80 not out from just 36 balls. The home side started badly, but Aaradhya Tiwari stood firm with 46 and they finished on 145-8.

In the Readers Durham & North East Cricket League Division One, Seaham Harbour batted first at Brandon in the big game at the top. They made 228-8, as opener Steven Gale scored an excellent 104, which included 17 fours, and Paras Dogra 41, while Jordan Grosert and Ryan Green shared seven wickets between them.

The home side then made an excellent start as Chris Peareth (86) and a brilliant

centuryfro­mGordonMuc­hall (119no) made good inroads and they showed their class by getting the winning runs on 229-2.

Durham City scored 193-9 at Marsden, after been inserted by the home side. George Pullinger made 46 and Timon Basu 50, while Hammad Ahmed took 4-52. Marsden then had Hammad Ahmed score heavily and they made their target with one wicket to spare on 197-9.

South Shields took first knock at home to Ryhope and totalled 241-7. Luke Elliott scored 79 and Chris Rainbow 65, as John Errington

claimed 3-56. The visitors then lost early wickets, with Joshua Leslie, Alex Thompson, Tharusha Fernando, all in the wickets and they were all out for 147.

In Division Two, the big game at the top saw Mainsforth win the toss and bat first at Tudhoe. Ryan Nicholson fired 48 and Kieran Latcham 74 as they made 243-4. The home side then collapsed to 113 all out as Latcham and Nicholson shared seven wickets between them.

Boldon CA sneaked home by two wickets in a low scoring game at home to Peterlee, who made 106 all out. Sam

Sanderson was the pick of the bowling with 3-25, while a crucial 27 from Craig Pirie got them home on 109-8.

Hunwick batted first and made 267-8 at home to Murton. Jack Mensforth scored a useful 72 and Aaron Proud 34, while Stephen Newton added 30, while Jordan Vout claimed 4-56. The visitors then had the Vout family all in the runs, but they came up short on 242-9.

Evenwood piled up the runs at home to Bill Quay, scoring 285-6, while the visitors made 178 all out, to give the home side a comfortabl­e 105-run win.
