STORY

More plans for city centre apartments, this time in a historic Sunderland building.

David Hetherington:

Great, brings people back into the town. More people means more rejuvenation. I sometimes think the people of Sunderland would rather see an empty property rather than residential development. The old idea of town centres is no longer sustainable. New Town centres will be a mixture of residential, entertainment, culture and sustainable hospitality usually for the 18- 30yr olds.

Simon Whitaker:

Excellent news. Need more people living in the city.

Amy Drummond:

Brilliant news, nice to see the building being used for something.

Stuart Porthouse:

Long time overdue, beautiful building no longer standing unused and there is a need for more homes in the City centre, well done.

Che Thornton:

Great news, more people living in the City Centre is what we need to increase footfall. That's what all big Cities have that

Sunderland doesn't. That's how you sustain better quality bars, restaurants, shops etc. Weekend only business isn't enough.

Allan Crago: Great to see that this lovely building is not going to be neglected. Well done Sunderland Council.

Robert Brown: There’s nothing in the city, it needs shops or entertainment areas not more flats.

Elaine Swan: Was it a developer that converted the old GPO building on Sunniside into apartments. They look derelict now.

Caroline Harrison: More apartments? Is that what we need?

Amanda Martin: Excellent just what’s needed, more development to increase the amount of people living in the centre.

Bob Langley: Will they be for sale or rent. Two different economic markets.

Millie Mop: More, we have nothing in Sunderland at all, but apartments, seriously!!
