This isn’t how it works

-

Jill Natusch had unfortunate timing with her letter "UK – sick man of the G7". This was published on February 1 just as it was announced that the UK had the fastest growth in the G7 for the second year. I have read all the "ah but" posts about the UK starting from a lower base. However, that is not how it works.

It was also widely reported that the UK is still attractive to foreign firms as foreign investment creates thousands of jobs in the UK.

The North East is aiming to further its recent track record for attracting inward investment from foreign firms with some “very big

and exciting” projects, Guy Currey, director Invest North East England a leading figure in the regional economy says.

The North East was singled out for praise in a number of reports this year for its inward investment performance, with figures from the Department for International Trade

(DIT) showing that inward investment to the North East created 5,843 new jobs, more than any other region outside London, despite being the smallest region in the UK.

Jill goes on to blame Brexit for the cost of basics of food and heating. A little research would show her the impact of Covid and the Russian invasion of Ukraine is global. Contrary to anti Brexit propaganda the UK does not have the highest energy prices in Europe. The truth is in 2022 UK domestic gas prices were below those of most of the EU, while electricity prices were higher than the UK in three EU countries.

Perhaps the UK knockers should step back and do some research.
