A must-win game for Horden or it’s the play-offs, admits Colledge

-

Horden CW assistant manager Andy Colledge believes his side’s trip to Birtley Town is a ‘must-win’ for both sides.

The Marras have a chance to close the gap on Division Two leaders Boro Rangers to just three points at the Arrowmark Home Improvements Stadium - although their hosts know a win can keep alive their own outside chances of a push for the title and promotion.

Ahead of Saturday’s game, Colledge said: “We know Birtley are a very good side and it’s a must-win game for both teams - especially with it being our game in hand on both Boro Rangers and Bedlington Terriers.

“If we don’t win this game, then it’s probably the playoffs for us."

There was a double blow for Horden ahead of the game after key duo Ollie Hotchkiss andJoshHome-Jacksonwere ruled out with injuries.

However, midfielder Nat Skidmore has returned to contention and recent signing Michael Rae could be handed a start.

There are two Friday night fixtures in Division Two as Washington entertain Prudhoe YC at Southern Area and local rivals Billington Synthonia and Billingham Town meet at Stokesley Sports

Club.

Elsewhere on Saturday, Jarrow are awaiting news on the fitness of Liam Mulvain, David Smith and Kris Summers as they prepare to visit South Tyneside rivals Boldon CA.

There was some good news for Jarrow joint-managers Dave Bell and Scott Oliver as Myles Hubbard and Abu Salim both return to contention in time to feature in their squad.

Chester-le-Street Town face a tough-looking trip to play-off contenders Blyth Town and Easington Colliery could move into the top ten if they claim a win at Esh Winning and results elsewhere go their way.

Chester-le-Street United are approaching a fullstrength squad ahead of their home game with struggling Ryton and Crawcrook Albion and bottom of the table Willington are without the suspended Ben Thacker for their visit to Newcastle University.

Brandon United are looking to end a run of six games without a win when they head to the Vibrant Stadium to face Redcar Town in a clash between two sides nestled in mid-table.
