Waging war on the public
In this era of growing unrest and societal division, it would appear that the Conservative leadership is determined to wage war on the greater majority of the British public.
The extremes they are prepared to go to could be argued to be tantamount to a campaign of terror, representing unashamed rule by the rich for the rich.
If we look at some of the key manifestations of government policies over the past 12 years, the picture is starkly clear: a marked growth in the wealth of the richest individuals and global corporations as well as the use of “offshore” and a lack of willingness to oppose the use of tax avoidance schemes by the rich.
Then there’s the continued running down and undermining of public services and increasing exposure to profiteering private entities; the willingness to resort to legislation to undermine the right to strike, engage in civil protest and to demonise immigrants and minority groups; the undermining of devolved government; the presiding over significant growth in consumer and student debt; the increased use of aggressive rhetoric to divide and rule and the utter disdain shown for the general public by the scandal of Partygate.
For those reasons it’s essential that those currently striking for improvements recognise the prolonged state of affairs that has led to their current predicament.
This is particularly the case when faced with a barrage of propaganda by the rich, which serves to misinform and mislead the population at large, thereby perpetuating the grotesque myth that there is no alternative to the failed policies of the current morally bankrupt government.
