Hospital staff pick up top marks from hundreds of their patients
Hospital staff who treat hundreds of patients every week in Sunderland have been recognised after overwhelming feedback thanking them for their dedication.
In recognition of their work, staff from Sunderland Royal Hospital outpatient department have been presented with a Star Award from Healthwatch Sunderland.
The independent organisation – which operates as a champion for those who use health and social care services across the city – presented the hospital department with the award following a nomination from a patient who was helped by the team.
This was backed up by hundreds of comments from others who had visited the service following feedback collected by Healthwatch Sunderland.
The outpatients team is based in Sunderland Royal Hospital’s Chester Wing and the teams offer a range of services – ranging from cardiology, neurology, oncology, general surgery and vascular.
The Healthwatch Sunderland Star Awards recognises teams and organisations working in health and social care in the city who have received positive feedback.
Outpatient nurse manager, Christine Tilbury said she was thrilled that the department has been recognised for service they provide.
She said: “I’m very proud
of the team, everybody makes a great contribution to creating a positive patient experience.
“It’s lovely to receive this award to acknowledge that.
Thank you very much on behalf of the outpatients department.”
Representatives from Healthwatch presented the department with the award.
Tara Johnson, project lead, said: “On behalf of patients, we are delighted to be able to issue the outpatients department and its staff with one of our Star Awards.
“The Star Awards are a Healthwatch Sunderland initiative which acknowledge and recognise the contribution that staff and services make to health and social care services in our area.”
The Trust’s Outpatients Department also works across a renge of sites including South Tyneside District Hospital, Palmer Community Hospital, Sunderland Children’s Centre, Durham Treatment Centre and The Galleries Outpatients Department.
